General Foreman:

The General Foreman holds a key field management position, overseeing and coordinating the safe daily operations of utility construction projects. With a primary emphasis on safety, compliance, efficiency, cost management, and innovation, the General Foreman leads field operations. This role is responsible for managing construction activities, ensuring strict adherence to company procedures, and involves physically demanding work.

What Do You Offer Us:

  • Field expertise in Gas (poly/steel), Power (conduit and cable pulling), experience with 50-150kVA transformers, and Communication (conduit) installation in new/rehab housing developments is required.
  • Ability to read blueprints, manage multiple crews, schedule work for efficiency, and ensure daily production goals are met.
  • Oversee construction activities, ensuring adherence to Mears Company and Client Policies, and managing physically demanding work.
  • Supervise and coordinate construction projects, ensuring adherence to plans, specifications, and timelines.
  • Champion Safety culture by modeling behaviors and providing corrective action when appropriate.
  • Oversee the procurement, delivery, and management of materials and equipment required for construction projects.
  • Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure work meets or exceeds industry standards and project requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies, promoting a safe working environment.
  • Develop and maintain business relationships by attending customer progress meetings and pre-bid meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including progress reports, safety records, and crew assignments.
  • Support crew by operating equipment and doing labor as needed.
  • Lead and manage multiple construction crews, assigning tasks, and ensuring productivity and efficiency.
  • Pre-survey job location and ensure utility locates have been performed.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as engineering and project management, to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure their work aligns with project requirements and timelines.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients to provide updates, address concerns, and ensure satisfaction.
  • Ability to analyze, multitask, think critically, and resolve work challenges.
  • Secure work site to ensure public safety and safety of equipment and materials.
  • Address and resolve issues or challenges that arise during construction projects, implementing effective solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices to enhance overall construction efficiency.
  • Knowledge and understanding of LOTO and hazard recognition.
  • Implement strategies to optimize productivity, minimize downtime, and ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Provide training to construction personnel on safety protocols, job requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Maintain and enhance knowledge in gas distribution, pipeline, and underground electric safety.
  • Monitor the performance of construction crews, provide feedback, coach, and address performance issues.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with poly pipe fusion and electrofusion.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated, results driven, and details focused.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of natural gas field experience.
  • Must hold a valid Driver’s License.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • DOT Medical Card – If driving company vehicle.
  • Pass Pre-Employment DOT drug screen and background check.
  • Work in remote or isolated locations based on project needs, as well as travel occasionally.
  • Basic understanding of accounting and finance concepts/applications.
  • Comfortable digging around live utilities.
  • Certified in OSHA or possess other safety related certifications.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods with repeated lifting (Up to 50 lbs.), kneeling, crawling, climbing and reaching.

This position is subject to the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) drug & alcohol testing regulations as outlined in 49 CFR Part 382 and/or 49 CFR Part 199.
