Cable Splicer

Lineman will work with others who have a working knowledge of all aspects of substation/line work and have the capability and expertise to work independently if required. A valid commercial drivers license is required.

What Do You Offer Us?

Essential and related responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Adheres to all Company Safety and Health Policies while in the course of conducting Company business.
  • Climbs power poles and steel towers.
  • Works on energized lines, low voltage and high voltage.
  • Constructs, maintains and repairs overhead and underground electrical system and equipment up to 60 KV.
  • Performs high voltage field switching, including working with energized high voltage equipment with approved hotline tools.
  • Performs rubber glove work on voltages up to and including 21,000 volts.
  • Drives and operates specialized vehicular equipment.
  • Required to work on ladders, and at times, out of an aerial lift bucket.

What is Required?

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of journey person work in electrical transmission and distribution systems; materials, tools and methods used in electrical construction, installation and maintenance; State of California General Orders 95 and 128 Electrical Safety Orders; California Occupational Health and Safety Act (Title 8).
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
  • Ability to respond appropriately and quickly in emergencies.
  • Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain good public relations.
  • Ability to work with others and maintain a positive image in the work place.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include walking, standing or climbing for extended periods of time and operating assigned equipment and vehicles.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
  • Knowledge of first aid principles including resuscitation methods.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety practices.
  • Knowledge of knots and rigging.
  • Knowledge of principals of rubber gloving voltages up to and including 21,000 volts.
  • Ability to become qualified to rubber glove voltages up to and including 21,000 volts within six months of employment.

Special Requirements

  • May be required to relocate as work requirements demand.
  • May be required to hold a valid class B commercial driver s license.
  • May be required to obtain light crane certification for boom trucks etc.
  • May be required to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Drives and operates conveyance machinery equipped with tools and materials to job site.
  • May work in storm restoration operations to rebuild and/or repair damaged power systems.
  • May attend training classes or seminars to gather knowledge of new processes, safety regulations and/or refresher training.
  • Works with supervision.

Working Conditions

Travel from site to site; exposure to high voltage; work at heights and below ground; moderate to heavy lifting; climbing and stooping; work in inclement weather conditions.

Physical Qualifications

  • Lifting and handling materials up to 60 pounds unassisted.
  • Capable of working from hanging ladders, walk boards, or baskets on booms for clipping, dead ending cond., etc.
  • Walking and working across uneven terrain.
  • Exposure to hot and cold weather conditions
  • Climbing on and off large trucks and equipment.

This position is subject to the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) drug & alcohol testing regulations as outlined in 49 CFR Part 382 and/or 49 CFR Part 199.
