We are looking for a talented Product Compliance & Certification Engineer - Technical Specialist to join our team specializing in Environment for the Corporate/CBS Business Segment in Fridley, MN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
  • Responsible for environmental compliance-related activities. Applies specialized knowledge of engineering and/or project management principles and practices across various areas and projects by interpreting, communicating, and ensuring all environmental regulations and standards are adhered to as they impact the company products, processes, components, or facilities.
  • Applies technical expertise on complex components or projects and works under minimal supervision for regulatory compliance efforts and other applicable programs.
  • Participates as a key contributor and is accountable for cross-functional project success with various stakeholders.
  • Analyzes and communicates information to many internal stakeholders as it relates to environmental compliance matters. Identify, establish, and/or facilitate meetings and training on compliance.
  • Leads small projects or portions of large projects.
  • Works with subject matter experts from related groups to drive efforts to improve environmental performance or compliance processes and identify opportunities to establish common processes and tools.
  • Supports defining and executing corrective actions.
  • Communicates with and influences key external stakeholders and business leaders, and escalates compliance issues as appropriate.
  • Assists with the transfer of knowledge; coach and mentor less experienced compliance personnel.
  • Demonstrates depth of knowledge of engineering or environmental discipline(s) and leverages expertise on other projects. Proposes innovative initiatives and projects.
  • Escalates and drives resolution to compliance questions and issues; provides technical direction for a project or a project team.
  • Troubleshoots complex problems and recommends appropriate actions.
  • Participates as a key contributor and is accountable for cross-functional project success with various stakeholders.
Qualifications
Skills
  • Environmental Acumen - Leverages environmental topics and trends related to air, exhaust, water, waste, sustainability, and/or materials; uses environmental data to solve problems, understand business impact, and protect and improve the environment while also making a positive impact on human health and well-being.
  • Environmental Standards and Regulations - Analyzes technical and legal documents, enabling interpretation and further communication of content resulting in a clear definition of requirements to the business; works in conjunction with subject matter experts and business units to develop strategies and plans for meeting requirements; information to be shared broadly with cross-functional groups within Cummins.
  • Environmental Regulatory Compliance - Champions compliance with environmental regulatory requirements imposed on the industry by local, state, provincial, national, and international organizations including air emissions, wastewater discharges, natural resource consumption, waste generation, spill prevention and reporting, and emergency response.
  • Manages complexity - Making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.
  • Action-oriented - Taking on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm.
  • Collaborates - Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.

Education, Licenses, Certifications
  • College, university, or equivalent degree in Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Business, or related technical or scientific field required.
Experience
  • This position is open to a remote possibility.
  • An intermediate level of relevant work experience is required. Experience across organizations and global regions is preferred. Knowledge of the function being worked on is preferred.
  • Act as a single point of contact, responsible for translating requirements, owning and leading system-level technical leadership, whilst also supporting regulatory compliance to national and international standards during new product introduction.
  • Reviews and interprets legislative text, regulations, and policy proposals appropriate to a specific region or country, and compares/contrasts with other laws or regulations.
  • Work closely with external agencies, and cross-functional teams, including product development, quality assurance, manufacturing, and purchasing, to integrate safety and compliance considerations into the product development lifecycle.
  • Facilitate product risk assessments and risk reductions, and assist in test process creation/ data collection where applicable.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the process and accreditation requirements of reports and certification documents.
  • Evaluate new and existing products to identify potential compliance issues and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Product knowledge is essential, mechanical or electrical installation knowledge with a minimum of three years of relevant experience is essential, and experience with third-party certification bodies is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Base Salary range commensurate with experience, range: $96,000 - $144,000 . Please note that the salary range provided is a good-faith estimate of the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate's qualifications and experience, where appropriate. Additional benefits vary between locations and include options such as our 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, Cash Balance Pension Plan, Medical/Dental/Life Insurance, Health Savings Account, Domestic Partners Coverage, and a full complement of personal and professional benefits.
