MCPHS is Hiring an Assistant Director - Counseling Services Near Worcester, MA

Reporting to the Director of Counseling Services, Worcester, the Assistant Director has three primary roles. Clinical, Outreach and Programming. Counseling Services seeks an experienced clinical mental health supervisor, to provide individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, case management, consultation, and outreach programming support, staff and intern supervision and training on our Worcester Campus. This position works directly with graduate and professional level students in accelerated healthcare programs and provides consultation to faculty and staff in identifying and supporting the social and emotional needs of their students and the larger campus community.
This is a full-time, 12- month, in- office position.
Clinical: 75%
  • Provides culturally informed leadership in the administration, supervision, organization, and daily operations of Counseling Services for the University in the absence of the Director
  • Responsible for individual and group counseling, triage, crisis management and intervention for Worcester campus students.
  • Co Develops Counseling Services Centralized Intern Training Program and serves as the primary supervisor for Worcester Center interns
  • Provide students with referrals to outside treatment providers.
  • Consult with faculty/staff regarding student matters.
  • Maintain clinical notes, monthly statistics and other necessary clinical and administrative forms in a timely manner.
  • Requires an understanding of the educational, cultural, and social needs of a diverse student population (domestic and international student community, adult learners and students who are parents).
  • Train new staff in Titanium and Clinical Documentation procedures.
  • Work with Counseling Services staff to ensure consistency and quality improvement implementation of services.
  • In working with the Clinical Case Manager will assist with Leave-of-Absence (LOA) processes for students in concert with the academic support and Student Affairs offices. Meet with students returning from health-related leave of absence or hospitalization to support their return to MCPHS.
  • Communicate promptly, reliably, and clearly to responsibly manage individual and departmental needs to Director
  • Assist Director as needed in preparing various reports and/or completing projects.
  • Participate in Counselor on Call rotation for afterhours needs.
  • Collaborate with Counseling staff at Boston, Worcester and Manchester campuses.
Outreach and Programming: 20%
  • Develop and deliver campus wide mental health outreach programming and education to include active and passive initiatives and content.
  • Participate in individual and group supervision regularly as well as staff training and retreats.
Student Affairs: 5%
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs leadership and staff to address student needs
  • Participate in University-wide committees and programming/events such as Orientation, Open Houses, Commencement, and other events as requested
  • Maintain knowledge related Title IX, FERPA and HIPPA regulations and response protocol
  • Assist with clinical support and travel to other campuses as needed
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director or Executive Director.
  • Contributes to sustaining and enhancing an inclusive working and learning environment.
Required:
  • Master's degree (Social Work, Counseling Psychology, or a related field) and two or more years of experience in a college/university counseling setting.
  • Massachusetts Licensure required.
  • Crisis management experience, including serving in on-call capacity.
  • Experience supervising and training intern staff strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, possess ability to organize and prioritize tasks, tolerate interruptions to workflow and adapt to sudden shift in clinical demands
  • Requires an understanding of the educational, cultural and social needs of a domestic and international student community.
  • Ability to manage confidential materials and maintain confidentiality when working on specific task or projects
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, to appropriately prioritize tasks and resources to respond to crisis and routine matters.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
