McNay Art Museum is Hiring a Membership Officer Near San Antonio, TX

MEMBERSHIP OFFICER ANNUAL SALARY-$50,000Position OverviewManages the McNay’s membership program, including all individual membership levels, business, and education membership programs. Responsible for the mechanics of operating a membership program, and collaborates with Development Officers on upper level (Patron and Visionary Circle) member levels. Responsible for tracking revenue, retention, and new acquisitions for all member levels. Oversees and implements annual membership campaigns, monthly renewal notices, and weekly membership cards, as well as responsive to daily member inquiries. Collaborates with the marketing department to deploy member messages via the website, email, and mailed collateral. Collaborates with education department on member events or programs, and curatorial department on exclusive member tours. Fosters and sustains awareness and support of the McNay Art Museum by broadening and diversifying the Museum’s membership through comprehensive event and outreach strategies to meet revenue goals. Reports directly to the Head of Development.
Essential Job Functions
  • Confidentiality: Maintain absolute confidentiality about members’ personal information. Conduct business in a courteous and professional manner at all times with Board, staff, volunteers, members, visitors, and all museum supporters.
  • Museum Representative: Represent the institution at a variety of community events and functions, as required or requested.
  • Team Approach: Maintain a professional, and positive team approach in all assignments. Seek to learn about other departments, as well as support each member of the Development Department regardless of task. Collaborates closely with Development Officer, Individual Giving on upper level member retention, renewals, and new prospecting; and Development Officer, Earned Revenue and Events on events and programs. Coordinates member related activities across departments, and regularly attends other department meetings, including but not limited to curatorial and education department meetings.
  • Strategic Planning: With oversight and approval from direct supervisor and with input from Development Officers, create strategic plans that support the annual revenue goals, expenditures, and income projections for membership.
  • Data Analysis: Manage Altru data analysis to perform donor and membership assessments regularly. Through this, assist in assigning department goals and prepare department and agency budget projections based on data analysis and interpretation, and industry trends.
  • Membership Programs: Review and regularly make recommendations on revisions to the Museum’s current membership program, including pricing levels, benefit structure, premiums, etc.
  • Serve as public spokesperson for the Museum’s membership program (with a focus on general levels), communicating with members through letters, emails, social media, and at member events. Strengthen the recruitment, cultivation, and stewardship program for organizational members.
  • Membership Renewal: Responsible for managing routine renewal notices. Systematically review results and effectiveness of renewals, letter copy, design and techniques.
  • Membership Solicitation at Museum Events: Responsible for staffing a Membership booth or table at appropriate Museum events.
  • Marketing: Market membership programs through multi-channel marketing, including email, direct mail, website presence, on-site sales, public relations, social media, and personal solicitations. Collaborate with the Museum’s Communications team, when needed.
  • Member Events: Implement an annual calendar of regular member programs to encourage and promote the involvement of Members, and collaborate with staff and volunteers to produce successful activities. Oversight of design and distribution of all member event materials.
  • Department Coordination: work collaboratively across all departments to coordinate the best possible Member experience throughout the organization.
  • Deadlines: Keep schedule of project and reporting deadlines, including timely acknowledgment of gifts and stewardship activities, in cooperation with pertinent staff. Ensures peers are on task and fulfill related duties to meet overall objectives.
  • Other: Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, and experience in customer service or public-facing roles

  • Strong organizational abilities. Skilled at project management and capacity to work in a rapidly changing environment on multiple, ongoing projects
  • Function well under pressure, ability to navigate varied social situations
  • Responds well to and actively solicits visitor or member feedback
  • High energy and self-starter
  • Self-motivated and demonstrate leadership abilities
  • Proficient in the use of a point-of-sale system, Microsoft Office suite, and CRM / database management. Must have strong analytical abilities
Other SkillsMust have flexible working hours, to accommodate member or related event programs.
Education & ExperienceEducation: Bachelors’ degree
Work Experience: 3 years experience managing a member program, or 5 years working in nonprofit development/advancement.

Built by artist and educator Marion Koogler McNay in the 1920s, her Spanish Colonial Revival residence became the site of Texass first museum of modern art when the McNay opened in 1954. Admission to the McNay ranges from $10 to $15 (for adults) and $5 to $12 for (students, seniors and active military) depending on the exhibitions and galleries on view.
