Position Objectives
The purpose of this position is to provide NC Certified Appraiser level of work for the department. This position will work with others in the Appraisal Department.
Duties & Responsibilities
To perform a variety of duties involved in the discovery, administration and appraisal of the Real Property and Motor Vehicles within the county tax jurisdiction.
Complete the monthly upload to the VTS workflow
Hear appeals on value and situs and defend to the Board of E&R if necessary
Provide monthly reports to the finance department
Visit properties throughout the county to insure accurate tax records
To assist in the Mapping Department
To assist with Deed Transfers, Bond Justifications, Deed Certifications and function as a Review Officer for Plat recording
To provide customer service to the public with use of the counties GIS website
Will also serve as a backup for the switchboard as needed
To audit all properties that are receiving deferment or exemption status.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge of current laws, methods and procedures as outlined in the Machinery Act of North Carolina
Ability to operate a computer
Ability to drive a vehicle
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with taxpayers and co-workers
Ability to work outside where new construction may be in process
Desirable Training and Experience
Must have completed all the requirements to obtain status as a certified appraiser in North Carolina. Either recognized by the DOR or as a fee appraiser with the ability to obtain DOR certifications within the next two years.
Two years’ experience working in county government. Or a combination of a related education back ground and experience.
