Job Summary

Operates all related equipment in a safe and efficient manner to produce quality product.

Job Functions

Essential Functions :

  • Orders packaging material (paper, poly, cartons) from storage as needed.
  • Visually inspects boxes, cartons and bag material for printing defects.
  • Ensures proper sizing of container (box).
  • Performs sanitation duties of the work area include the machines equipment.
  • Loads packaging material onto machines in a timely manner to ensure no line stoppages.
  • Performs net weight control checks and make equipment adjustments to minimize give away.
  • Performs metal detector checks as required to ensure product integrity.
  • Communicates any changes in product flow, equipment malfunctions, shortages or deviations from specifications to Production Supervisor, maintenance or other operators verbally and / or writing.
  • Assists in development of training programs and in training of both production line workers and operators.
  • Assists Production Supervisor by monitoring breaks.
  • Inspects packaging, coding and seals to verify conformance to specifications and performs necessary adjustments to insure compliance.
  • Reviews SPC test results to understand when and if to make adjustments to keep process in control.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Completes end of shift reports with all required information at shift end.
  • Evaluates line worker performance and communicates observations to supervisor, including areas for improvement.
  • Reports any changes in product flow, equipment malfunctions, deviations or safety hazards to Production Supervisor or mechanic.
  • Monitors and encourages personnel to ensure good manufacturing practices.
  • Provides fellow operators with verbal / written information concerning production efficiencies and product quality.
  • Performs light maintenance of packaging equipment and assist maintenance personnel and adjustments and repairs.
  • Analyze and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems.
  • Maintains Hour by Hour Boards and other visual documentation boards.
  • Strictly adheres to all company and plant policies concerning safety, performing proper Lock-Out, Tag-Out procedures, using proper lifting techniques, wearing effectively all personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, proper walking / stepping and all other safety procedure related to your duties.
  • Adhere to all company and plant polices related to GMP’s, Safety, work rules and procedures.
  • Perform activities of packaging attendants as needed.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is essential for meeting performance expectations of the position.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES :

Provides work direction to 5 to 13 line employees in the Production Department. Carry out work direction responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include training employees; directing work; assist with apprising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required :

  • High School Diploma or equivalent plus six months to one year related experience or training;
  • Proficiency in team building; excellent communication / interpersonal skills to motivate, encourage, train, direct and coach employees.
  • Must be able to enter data into a computer.
  • Ability to read and interpret document such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate in basic English and interact with all levels of the organization.

Preferred :

Associate’s Degree ( or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.

Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING REQUIRED :

Smock, Gloves, Hairnet, Sleeves, Waterproof Suit, Ear Plugs, Protective Toe Shoes, Goggles (when needed) or as determined by SDS sheets for chemicals.
