Mayor and City Council of Baltimore is Hiring a Remote Community Health Educator III - Health Department

POSTING DATE: 03/04/2024 CLOSING DATE: 03/18/2024 AT 12:00AM MIDNIGHT SALARY $50,841.00 - $61,599.00 Annually EDUCATION ACCREDITATION: Applicant’s education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org. ELIGIBILITY: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final. CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to this position identified as positions of trust will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a Fingerprint check. PROBATION: All persons, including current City employees, selected from this position will be on probation for 6 months. CLASS DESCRIPTION A Community Health Educator III designs, organizes, and conducts health educational and promotional programs. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where working conditions are normal. Work requires minimal physical exertion. SELECTION PROCESS All candidates indicating the minimum qualifications on their applications will be placed on the eligible list without further examination. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. It is essential, therefore, that you give complete and accurate information on your application. Vagueness or omission may prevent you from being considered for this position. Qualified candidates will not be listed in rank order. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must: EDUCATION: Have a bachelor's degree in public or community health education from an accredited college or university. AND EXPERIENCE: Have two years of experience performing public or community health education work. OR NOTES(EQUIVALENCIES): Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of experience performing public or community health education work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES Some positions in this classification assigned to Baltimore City Health Department may require a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver’s license and eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit. NOTES: In some designated positions, specific experience providing community health education in HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases or Tuberculosis may be required. Some positions in this class may require, in addition to fluency in English, fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and translating English into a non-English language. KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of the principles and techniques of health education. Knowledge of individual and group behavior. Knowledge of facts and prevention of a wide variety of diseases, such as HIV/AIDS, STD, and Tuberculosis. Skill, in certain designated positions, in speaking, translating, reading and writing a non-English language utilizing specific established rules pertaining to such factors as spelling in letters or characters in a Latin or non-Latin-based alphabet or writing system, word meanings, sentence structure, grammar, pronunciation, punctuation and other related language mechanics. Ability to design, organize, conduct, and evaluate community health education and promotion programs. Ability to utilize the computer and common business presentation software packages to prepare community health education and promotion materials. Ability to develop and conduct in-service training programs in health education. Ability to act as a health educational consultant. Ability to deal with city government officials and personnel and community groups and organizations. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
