About the Role

The China & Alaska Fleet Operations Manager position will manage the deployment and utilization of Matson vessels in the Alaska trade lane and MAX / AAX services to ensure vessel schedule integrity, maximize utilization, achieve equipment consist requirements, and meet or exceed customer expectations for service and reliability. Responsible for day-to-day fleet schedules/system planning/long term scheduling of Matson ships in these services as well as tracking and monitoring of competitor vessels in competing trade lanes. Provides reporting and data/financial analysis for operations decision making on fleet deployment, stevedoring plans, performance of vessels and operating alternatives. Works with IT and any external service providers on continuous system improvements/enhancements and future planning for Fleet operating systems.

  • Refrigerated container shipments: 4,400

What you'll do:

  • Manage the deployment and utilization of Matson vessels in the Alaska trade lane and MAX/AAX services to ensure vessel schedule integrity, maximize utilization, achieve equipment consist requirements, and meet or exceed customer expectations for service and reliability.
  • Work closely with terminal operations, sales/marketing, and customer service on fleet schedules/deployments to meet customer expectations in a cost-effective manner.
  • Work closely with vessel officers, marine ops, and engineering to resolve, minimize impact, and communicate any vessel mechanical delays that affect the fleet schedule including SCTW.
  • Update Matson vessel schedule daily for Alaska/MAX & AAX services in the Fleet Scheduling System (FSS), including monitoring and tracking competitive schedules in similar trade lanes.
  • Oversee any fleet updates by China team for feeder services within Asia.
  • Work with VP, Fleet Operations to develop cost effective long-range fleet deployment plans to match capacity with demand and provide value added service to our customers. Develop most efficient, cost-effective dry dock schedules in combination with relative parties for Alaska, MAX, AAX and any new potential services in these trade lanes.
  • Develop financial planning tools as needed to determine and compare costs of different fleet deployments.
  • Use of Tableau and/or Power BI to provide/automate operational reporting as needed.
  • Work with corporate planning/engineering on vessel charters/updated ships models and documents for new chartered vessels in MAX service.
  • Work with Sr. Fleet Analyst to ensure Operations page has current data/information for vessels in Alaska / MAX / AAX trades.
  • Provide support on Matson's ESG initiatives providing fleet data for the annual sustainability report and CII reporting.
  • Monitor vessel voyage information in Coach system to ensure accuracy for IMO DCS Reporting.
  • Work with Marine Ops to ensure Coach System is added to any newly chartered/purchased vessels.
  • Support and provide information to SQE on fleet related requests and initiatives.
  • Test and approve any FSS / RPA changes deployed and work with IT department on future enhancements and overall maintenance of the system.
  • Ability to relieve others in Fleet Operations department for vacation relief.

  • Organization skills and high level of attention to detail with ability to prioritize/multitask.
  • Operations / Logistics Planning skills.
  • TWIC card required.
  • Some business travel may be required.

The annual salary range for this position in California is $122,200 - $177,160. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
