Associate Attorney Job Summary Our firm is looking for an Associate Attorney to help with our high volume of matrimonial/family law litigation cases. As an Associate Attorney, you work in a supportive role to the Partner in general and in tandem with the Associate assigned to the case you are working on. Your tasks include drafting legal documents, assisting with the discovery process, and performing legal research for each case. While we sometimes negotiate settlements on behalf of clients without going to trial, we are looking for someone who can aggressively represent our clients' interests. Our ideal applicant has 3-7 years of matrimonial/family law experience, preferably with a litigation background, and strong writing and trial advocacy skills. You must also be a self-starter and solution oriented in your approach to the position. Associate Attorney Duties and Responsibilities * Independently manage a case load of approximately 35-40 active matrimonial and/or family court cases at varying stages of the litigation process, including but not limited to, drafting pleadings, Statements of Net Worth, Financial Disclosure Affidavits, motions, petitions, proposed orders, and uncontested divorce packages, conducting legal research, engaging in written discovery (e.g. preparing discovery demands, preparing discovery responses, reviewing discovery production, serving interrogatories, etc.), taking and defending depositions, participating in settlement negotiations, preparing agreements and stipulations, and preparing for and participating in trials. * Familiar with keeping track of and entering billable time on a regular basis. * Conducting initial consultations with potential clients and providing recommendations . Associate Attorney Requirements and Qualifications * Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school * Licensed to practice law in NY * 3-7 years of matrimonial/family law experience, preferably with a litigation background * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively multitask. * Presence in the office 5 days a week (M-F) is expected. * Must be a team player. * Ability to proficiently use a computer and Microsoft suite applications (e.g. Word, Outlook, Teams, etc.).
