Job Description:

Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, the Associate Director of Social Media is a creative communications professional charged with deploying the College's brand across its official social media accounts. A savvy strategist and analyst, the ideal candidate will understand the art of developing content and campaigns that will resonate with our audience, meet College goals, and drive engagement. This person is a talented storyteller with a discerning eye for high quality visual content that reflects the caliber of work that the College community creates. A journalist at heart, this individual is passionate about discovering stories, connecting with colleagues, and forging new relationships across campus in order to effectively communicate the depth and breadth of exciting activity on campus. This person is also a well-rounded communicator with strong writing and editing skills, as well as photography and video production skills. The successful candidate will understand the sensitivities of communicating on behalf of a complex organization with a variety of stakeholders, perspectives, and backgrounds.

Summary of Duties:

  • Manages all of MassArt's official social media accounts: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, "X", Tik Tok, Threads, and YouTube.
  • Creates and deploys content across all social media channels in-keeping with the College's branding and identity standards
  • Benchmarks engagement and key metrics with peers and sets goals for growth and engagement
  • Develops and maintains relationships with colleagues institution-wide to source stories and content; in collaboration with the marketing and communications team, keeps finger on the pulse of what's happening across campus
  • Stays abreast of social media trends and best practices and makes recommendations for new accounts and channels
  • Oversees social media guidelines or policies for the College
  • Serves as the institution's social media expert: advises college leadership on their own social media presence and provides guidance to colleagues who run satellite MassArt accounts
  • Collaborates with marketing and communications team on integrated campaigns and makes recommendations for paid social media campaigns and influencer marketing
  • Collaborates with the marketing and communications team to identify, plan, and schedule creative content production to deploy across all external communications channels
  • Oversees the student social media ambassadors and guides the work on their social media accounts
  • Acts as content contributor to massart.edu and collaborates with the marketing and communications team on developing and executing an integrated content strategy
  • Utilizes digital asset management system to find creative content and collaborates with the department to maintain the system by uploading and tagging content
  • Utilizes media monitoring software to identify community stories to amplify on social media
  • Collaborates closely with the department on crisis communications issues
  • Measures, analyses and reports on effectiveness of social media strategy and collaborates with the marketing and communications team on department-wide reporting
  • Monitors activity across all platforms for reputation management
  • Occasionally attends events on nights and weekends as needed to capture content and cover live.

Salary: $60,000-70,000

This position is governed by the Association of Professional Administrators (APA) Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism or related field
  • 3-5 Years of experience in social media, marketing, branding or communication
  • Experience with photo and video production
  • Ability to assess needs and develop implementation strategies
  • Ability to prioritize competing needs from a variety of constituencies and audiences
  • Prior experience working in a complex and fast paced environment
  • Prior experience exercising sound judgment and resolving conflicting needs
  • Ability to work well in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing and implementing social media strategy
  • Experience working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Related experience working in higher education

This is a Hybrid (remote/office) position. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will work on the campus for 3-4 days/ weekly
