TRIO Tutor and Peer Ambassadors will provide guidance and support to TRIO Scholars on course assignments, model behaviors and attitudes of successful students, and provide insights on personal development related to social and cultural engagement on campus and in surrounding communities. They also promote student success concepts on motivation, goal setting, time management, learning styles, note taking, and reading comprehension. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to diversity, patience, positivity, and a passion for promoting peer achievement.
Under the supervision of the TRIO Student Support Director, Tutor and Peer Ambassadors will perform a variety of tutoring and mentoring duties, which involve meeting with students, facilitating tutorial sessions, serving as a peer spokesperson for Trio Student Support Services at MCLA, documenting and maintaining tutoring/mentoring track records, and contributing to the development of an office environment that is student focused and friendly.
Participate in tutor and mentor training.
Meet with students and complete the necessary documentation.
Serve as a peer spokesperson for Trio at campus events.
Punctual and reliable.
Demonstrated competence in subject(s) assigned to as a tutor.
Interpersonal skills related to professionalism, diversity, courtesy, listening, and patience.
Job Requirements:
Must be enrolled at MCLA as a Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Graduate student.
Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above with a reference from faculty academic advisor or academic/student affairs specialist familiar with student's academic and leadership achievements.
Courses needed: Math for Liberal Arts Majors, Algebra, Calculus, Statistics, Concepts of Biology and Lab, Philosophy, Intro. to Psychology, Drugs and Behavior, English, Chemistry 1 and 2, Organic Chemistry, History, Political Science, Philosophy and Art, Critical Reasoning and Logic, and Intro and upper-level Sociology courses.

This position is open only to students currently enrolled at MCLA.
