DREAM Center Coordinator
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Empowering students to dream big and achieve their goals is at the heart of the Mason City
Schools DREAM Center Coordinator role. They achieve this by supporting staff in accessing
resources for purposeful learning and by curating a dynamic collection of print and digital literacy resources that fuel student exploration and discovery.
They serve as the school library and maker-space in one, fostering a vibrant community hub. As a district leader, the DREAM Center Coordinator spearheads efforts to support dynamic and supportive environments in all buildings where students explore their passions, develop talents, and chase their dreams fueled by exposure to high-quality learning and creation resources.
The Coordinator collaborates with a dedicated team of educators to ensure this impactful experience for all students.
REPORTING
Reports to: Learner and Family Engagement Administrator FLSA Status: Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS
● Enthusiasm for working with youth and a genuine desire to help them succeed.
● Library Science License (strongly recommended)
● Creative, future-thinker with a knack for leading others and inspiring them to DREAM big.
● Strong communication skills and the ability to connect and collaborate with students and
colleagues.
● Organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks and responsibilities.
● Flexibility to adapt to the ever-changing needs of students and the school community.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
1. Leads and supports paraprofessionals, volunteers, and student interns as needed to amplify the impact of PK-12 DREAM center spaces.
2. Promotes a positive and welcoming culture within our DREAM centers while also supporting the appropriate and respectful use of resources.
3. Coordination of PK-12 DREAM Center experience.
4. Spark creativity and innovation by designing and implementing engaging programs and initiatives that inspire students to reach their full potential.
5. Cultivates Portrait of a Comet skills such as critical thinking by curating and maintaining a dynamic collection of print and digital resources that empower students to navigate todayinformation landscape.
6. Sparks a love of learning and responsible information use through a thriving collection of books, digital resources, and media that is constantly refreshed and organized.
7. Fuel students curiosity and ambition by connecting them with exciting opportunities, resources, and experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
8. Create a buzz on the school campus with lively workshops, events, and activities that energize students and get them excited about their future.
9. Strong Enthusiasm for STEAM concepts: design thinking, maker mindset, local/global problems solving.
10. Working knowledge of basic tools utilized within our Innovation Spaces and an ability to troubleshoot and learn new tools.
11. Ability to work with others to evaluate programs, curricula, student structures, materials, and pedagogy to discern effectiveness.
12. Ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff, families, and administration.
13. Works closely with district technicians to maintain an efficient repair support structure for students, staff, and parents.
14. Demonstrates competency, agility, and fluency with technology and software applications.
15. Participates as an active leader of the local and global learning community, building relationships with organizations and stakeholders.
16. Responsible for the selection and requisition of library materials in cooperation with the staff and the building principal.
17. Become the Lead Learner of Destiny (Dream Center Resource & Circulation System) and strategist for its use while developing and aligning Dream Center staff and volunteers.
i. Responsible for procedures of book and Chromebook/device check-in and out, communication with parents in lost books and development of inventory system
ii. Responsible for the organization and cataloging of materials. Maintenance of supplementary books for staff.
iii. Ability to organize and maintain inventory of a wide variety of materials (bothdonations and purchases)
Terms of
Employment: 185 days. Salary and work year to be established by the Superintendent.
