Maryhaven is Hiring a Job Developer Near Riverhead, NY

Job Summary:

Develops work try-outs, situational assessments, internships and summer employment for students with a disability and functions as a member of IEP team in assessing student’s vocational strengths and barriers.

Hours: Monday through Friday (8am-3:30pm). *With weekend/evening flexibility required; students work after school and/or weekends.

Education and Qualifications:

  • BA Degree is preferred in a related field plus one (1) year experience working with the mentally and physically challenged population
  • or High School diploma/equivalent and one (1) to two (2) years experience working with the mentally and physically challenged population..
  • Possess and maintain a valid NYS driver's license within Agency criteria and own a vehicle.

Essential Functions:

  • Uses creativity in developing jobs within the community for individuals and Riverhead School students with a disability, including work try-out for students, situational assessments, and community or school internships.
  • Works with special education teacher in the classroom on prevocational skills.
  • Educates employer on the rewards of hiring individuals with a disability. (tax incentives, free on the job training etc.)
  • Coordinates transportation needs and availability for individual to travel to and from work for students according to Riverhead School funding.
  • Assist students with career exploration through means of online evaluations, internships, job shadowing experiences.
  • Maintains communication with the AD/PS and Riverhead School Transitional Coordinator regarding individual needs and job site availability.
  • Meets with the AD /PS to coordinate placement match, assess and discuss supportive services needed, establish goals and update their progress, including recommendations to ACCES-VR
  • Provide job coaching for students for successful employment. Also provide job coaching for in school job sites such as the cafeteria, library, with custodial staff, if needed.
  • Reports and records monthly progress to Riverhead School District and maintains files, evaluates and modifies performance and standards on a daily and weekly basis.
  • Furnishes AD/PS with documentation required for those receiving services.
  • Establishes a waiting list for job placement and coaching services in conjunction with Riverhead School Transitional Coordinator.
  • Provides work related/prevocational services to designated summer school students as per MTP Summer Program and in conjunction with the MTP Transition Coordinator.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $22.00 per hour
