Position Overview
The Production Supervisor is responsible for directly managing all shift leads, associates on their shift and to working in collaboration with the Production Manager and Quality Control. This position assigns and reviews work performance and oversees the training and appraisal of current employees; additional shift supervisor duties include motivating employees to work more effectively, identifying problems with performance and determining solutions to these problems; determining training needs to improve work performance, initiating measures to correct misconduct or making recommendations for disciplinary action. The position is also responsible for ensuring all employees are working in a safe environment and for performing other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
  • Oversees manufacturing and support functions to ensure efficient, cost-effective production in a safe environment is achieved
  • Ensures all personnel are adequately trained and delegates tasks as required while monitoring their output and giving feedback on performance as necessary
  • Ensures all relevant information regarding the workplace is communicated effectively to all Production Employees
  • Ensures any issues relating to product quality, production efficiency or safety are communicated to management and when necessary to the POPs (HR) Department
  • Develops training materials and S.O.P.s for the Production tasks in conjunction with the POPs (HR) Department to ensure employees are properly trained and fully understand their roles to ensure they are productive and safe
  • Provides production information as required to management and ensures the required records are maintained. (scanned VPCs, batch records, lost batches, downtime and daily totals)
  • In conjunction with the POPs (HR) Department, conduct employee counselling and corrective action in a timely and professional manner. Participate and help facilitate POPs (HR) investigations
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
  • Provide leadership to others through personal example and sharing of knowledge/skill
  • Develop a culture that embraces safety, teamwork, continuous improvement, is client focused, conducts business in the highest ethical manner and promotes behavior designed to enable each member of the facility the ability to achieve personal and professional satisfaction through their daily activities
  • Implement and manage all federal, state and local regulatory agency laws and directives. Assure compliance with FEDA, EPA & OSHA
  • Ensure that all products meet food safety standards, quality standards, SQF and HACCP requirements
  • Ensure that all environment, safety, health, quality standards and regulations are met. Assist in the implementation and participate in ergonomic controls, ISO 14000, & OHSAS 18000
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Planning Duties: Ensures that production employees and the production output are planned in a cost effective and efficient manner.
  • Reviews and overseas production activities to ensure production output and on time delivery targets are achieved cost effectively
  • Continuously looks to improve the efficiency and productivity of the production processes through collaboration with colleagues and employees
  • Plans for individual or group participation in meetings in such a way as to minimize disruption and cost of overtime to production

Safety responsibilities: Ensures that all employees are working in a safe environment and promotes a culture of safety.
  • Continually improves safety by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes in conjunction with other departments
  • Participates and or runs the monthly safety meetings and contributes to creating a safety culture in the workplace
  • Conducts hazard analyses of workplace equipment and tasks in conjunction with the safety coordinator to ensure employee safety
  • This position is a designated, authorized representative to operate a company vehicle to transport Production employees in the event of a non-emergency, work-related incident

Quality responsibilities: Ensures all Quality requirements are met and S.O.P.s are being adhered to.
  • Ensures all safety, quality and regulatory procedures and standards are followed
  • Maintains and improves good housekeeping and adherence to GMP standards in all areas
  • Participates in investigations of quality issues with the QA department

Supervisory Responsibility
This position manages Dough Chefs, Operators, and Technicians along with all Production Employees.
Due to the vital and instrumental role held by this position, Supervisors are held to a higher standard of professionalism than other Production Employees. Perfect attendance is necessary, excluding emergencies and sickness. Depending on specific business needs, a higher level of flexibility by the Supervisor may be necessary. The position may be
  • Subject to last minute changes in scheduling
  • Required to work longer than 8 hours in a day
  • Required to work Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays
Exceptions to the above must be submitted in writing (email) in advance for approval. Supervisors who consistently fail to meet the standards of this policy or to follow these policies appropriately are subject to disciplinary action.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and volume; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
Required Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses
  • A strong background in supervising, leading teams from start to finish of projects
  • One year to two years in related experience in a Production or Manufacturing environment
  • Current valid Driver's License
Preferred Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses
  • Management 2 yr. college course
  • Two to three years' related experience in a Production or Food Manufacturing environment
  • Previous management or Supervisory experience
