Pharmacy IV Technician

Marshfield Medical Center, the Marshfield Clinic Health System flagship hospital, cares for patients from throughout central, northern and western Wisconsin. Marshfield Medical Center offers primary, secondary, tertiary and Level II Trauma Center hospital services provided by Marshfield Clinic specialists. The facility hosts nearly 40 specialties including cancer, heart and orthopedics care, as well as a 24-bed Children's Hospital equipped with the latest technology and highly trained hospitalists and nurses providing nearly 30 pediatric specialty services, including: child abuse-neglect, gastroenterology, pediatric intensive care, neonatology, and surgery. Access to a Level II Trauma Center, ensures 24-hour availability of anesthesiologists, dedicated medical equipment, operating room facilities, physician specialists, surgeons, and trauma nurses.

The Pharmacy IV Technician aseptically prepares parenteral injections and infusion fluids for patient use in various departments throughout the Clinic System, under the direct supervision (in person or tele-video) of a Pharmacist. A significant percentage of the drugs prepared are classified as hazardous agents, therefore, the Pharmacy IV Technician is proficient in the preparation and disposal of such materials.

Requires:

· High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited pharmacy technician or other health-care related program preferred.

· Pharmacy Technician registration or licensure or an application for pharmacy technician registration or licensure will be accepted if it is in pending status by the first date of employment. Registration/licensure must be obtained within 6 months. Registration/licensure must remain in good standing and current.

· Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (ChPT) is preferred.

Must have one of the following combinations in addition to knowledge of sterile products preparation and computer skills (word processing and spreadsheet):

· Two years pharmacy or IV technician work experience. OR One year of pharmacy or IV technician experience if certificated as a Pharmacy Technician (ChPT) or

· Six months of Pharmacy Technician experience that has consistent exposure to injectable medications and/or non-sterile compounding and certified as a Pharmacy Technician (ChPT) within one year of hire or

· Individuals who have extensive work-related experience with medications and aseptic technique but without direct pharmacy experience may be considered.
