Job: Area Coordinator

Shift: Days (7 am – 3:30 pm)(Flexible to support other shifts as needed)

Location: Mars Petcare (Fort Smith, AR)

Mars Petcare is seeking an Area Coordinator to join our exciting pet food business at a Fort Smith, AR, manufacturing plant. We focus on the unique needs of cats and dogs. Our obsession with detail allows us to deliver precise, effective nutrition and help them become their magnificent best.

The Area Coordinator creates and executes plans to accelerate building associate capability. They train, coach, and mentor operators to deliver the daily production plan and the 90-day plan. The Area Coordinator should be considered the subject matter expert on their equipment, and the single point of accountability for the operator capability in their area of responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Works directly with the Operations Team to support the execution of the production plan, which is focused on associate capability and flawless execution.
  • As the key trainer and equipment/machinery expert of an assigned area, you are responsible for building operator capability, problem-solving skills, and technical understanding across teams and shifts.
  • Assists in executing the 30-, 60-, or 90-day training plans for new hires in their area of responsibility.
  • Ensures all training documents are current for their area of responsibility.
  • As the subject matter expert of the Autonomous Maintenance (AM) and Daily Management Systems (DMS), provides guidance and training to Associates in these areas of expertise, including Clean Inspect Lubricate (CIL), Centerlines (CLs), Abnormality Handling, and 5S.
  • Builds capabilities to enable operators to respond to out-of-control situations and improve efficiencies.
  • Participates in executing planned production “stops” to perform regular maintenance or other routine activities; coaches operators on the effectiveness of proactive planning compared to unplanned breakdowns.
  • Participates in focused improvement activities in their respective area to assist in loss elimination.
  • Maintains Level 4 Step Up Cards (SUCs).
  • May relieve operators as needed within assigned production areas.
  • Works Independently within established procedures and practices.

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • 4 years of experience in manufacturing with progressive levels of responsibility or an Associate Degree in a technical field of study and 2 years experience in a TPM/technical manufacturing environment
  • Certified Trainer in their area of expertise

Knowledge / Experience

Required to have all the skills and knowledge of Operator 1-4 (See other JDs for details) in addition to the following:

  • Can operate and know how to manage the operations of all the production equipment in the assigned area.
  • Able to operate all the equipment in an assigned area to effectively train other Associates.
  • Has advanced skills, typically gained through a combination of job-related training and considerable work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading change and situational leadership.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel to capture and analyze data and PowerPoint to deliver presentations and training)
