Market Pavilion Hotel is seeking Barista | Quick Serve Representatives for our new, sweet and savory coffee shop named Cafe Pavilion located on Market Street at the Market Pavilion Hotel. All of our pastries, artisan breads, baked goods, desserts and savory food items are hand-crafted from absolute scratch by our Market Pavilion Hotel and Grill 225 culinary team.
The staff of The Market Pavilion Hotel, Grill 225, and The Pavilion Bar are the standard of luxury service in Charleston. POSITION DETAILS:

The ideal applicant must be a hands-on, energetic and an enthusiastic individual; who will ensure the highest levels of quality, guest satisfaction, service and food. Recipients must be caring, friendly, and hospitable with the ability to create positive and memorable interactions with each arriving guest. Ideal recipients will have an established working career in a previous coffee shop, gourmet store, restaurant, resort or hospitality related industry. Applicants must have a stable work background with the demonstration of being able to maintain a hospitality related role or similar position with a previous employer for at least 1 full year. Recipients of this position will have a good food knowledge, must be detail oriented, confident in speech and highly motivated.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OVERVIEW:

  • The Barista | Quick Serve Representative will receive, warmly greet and personally interact with visiting patrons face-to-face at the ordering counter.
  • Representatives will conduct food and beverage counter sales and ring up food, beverage and merchandise orders.
  • Representatives must be able to identify the guest’s interests as well as make food and beverage suggestions when needed.
  • Representatives must have a full knowledge of our full sweet and savory menu that is offered.
  • Representatives will conduct Point of Sale monetary transactions, collect and process payments from customers including: cash, digital payments, and credit cards. The ideal candidate must have good money handling skills and must be able to count money back to the guest when providing change.
  • Representatives will be responsible for making and dispensing coffee beverages as they are ordered such as: dark roast coffee, regular roast, espresso, cafe latte, and cappuccino and Macchiato.
  • Representatives are responsible for handling food products, which comprise 90% of the sales transactions throughout the day.
  • Representatives must be comfortable with handling artisan breads, baguettes, pastries, desserts, etc.
  • Representative will be responsible for picking these items from our food display cases upon request by the guest in a sanitary manner, and as specified by the company.
  • Representatives will be serving and scooping gelatos as selected by the guest.
  • Representatives will be responsible heating selected food items in our special super-heat quick-oven as required before serving or upon request by the guest.
  • Representatives will be responsible for handling, cutting and packaging food items when necessary at time of the purchase by the guest.
  • Representatives must practice safe food handling procedures in accordance with S.C. DEHC regulations.
  • Representatives will be responsible for maintaining the retail merchandising portion of the store with respect to food and beverage restocking, organizing and arranging throughout the day.
  • Representatives will be responsible for ensuring all display foods are merchandised attractively and are presented to company standards throughout the day.
  • Representatives will be responsible for ensuring that the customer counter areas, window sills and floors are neat and clean throughout the day.
  • To receive consideration for this position the Barista |Quick Serve Representative must be able to perform the following essential physical job functions daily:
  • Must be able to stand or alternatively move continuously in a confined area for 8 hours.
  • Must have the physical ability to climb, balance, bend, stoop, and kneel frequently.
  • Must have the physical ability to frequently crouch, push, pull, squat and work above the shoulders during the performance of the daily job routine.
  • Must have the physical ability to use both hands for continuous firm grasping with both hands for ice cream scooping, handling cutting tools, tongs, cutting boards, spoons, etc.
  • Must have the ability to comfortably use a cutting knife to slice sandwiches and baguette rolls.
  • Must have the physical ability to continuously carry up to 20-30 pounds of weight both on flat surfaces as well as up and down stairs for distances of up to 100 feet.
  • Must have the physical ability to occasionally lift up to 20-30 pounds of weight between the floor and waist, occasionally from the waist to above the shoulder. This weight will be comprised, but not limited to the following items: bulk food, beverage cases, cleaning and paper supplies, etc.
  • Must have the physical ability to occasionally push and pull various items such as bulk food, paper and cleaning supplies, cases of bottled beverages, trash bags and containers, weighing up to 30 pounds distances up to 150 feet.
  • Must have the physical ability to work at heights and on uneven surfaces frequently.
  • Must have the physical ability to tolerate any required protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses and other protective equipment deemed appropriate on a continuous basis.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School degree or equivalent.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND OPERATIONAL SKILLS:

  • The ideal applicant will be an individual with dignity who prides themselves on professionalism and the ability to foster leadership and accountability in the individuals they work with.
  • Our ideal applicants will possess at least 1 year experience, as a staff member in a restaurant, café, coffee shop or similar environment. Recipients of this position must have a basic knowledge of various coffee beverages and customer service.
  • Recipients of this position must have an established work record, with the demonstrated ability to have held a position with a previous employer for at least 1 full year.
  • The ideal applicant will work with fellow staff members and will intersect all areas of the food and beverage operations which include: Grill 225 and the Pavilion Bar.
  • Recipients of this position will be guest services driven, detail oriented, warm and friendly.
  • Recipients must have a good coffee knowledge with the technical ability to professionally present coffee beverages to guests. Previous experience working with and maintaining professional grade coffee equipment is preferred. Knowledge of classic espresso beverages, latte art experience preferred although not required.
  • The Individual will be required to perform all functions of their job to a Next-Level and high standard. The recipient will be extensively trained and will be required to follow the company's defined written documentation and interactive conversational procedures to ensure that we are professionally exceeding the expectations of our guests.
  • Must have an excellent aptitude and willingness to efficiently utilize operational software that provides the framework for our company.
SCHEDULE FLEXIBILITY:

The ideal candidate will have good schedule flexibility with the willingness to work weekdays, weekends and occasional holidays. Hours vary from morning (6:30am - 2:30pm) to afternoon / evening (1pm - 9pm). Full-time applicants with wide-ranging schedule flexibility will be given first consideration for this position.

  • The individual must be willing to provide shared work coverage for occasional holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas day, and New Years Eve.
  • This position will require an average workweek of 35-40 hours. Over time hours may apply based on business demands.
COMPENSATION:

Barista | Quick Serve Representative pay is $14.00-$16.00 per hour plus gratuities.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG SCREENING PROCESS:

Pre-employment drug testing is a definite reality in our company, and is a mandatory requirement for all eligible candidates. Contingent upon the candidate's ability to advance beyond the interviewing and background screening process, eligible employees will then be instructed to report to our company's designated drug testing facility in person.
