About Us:

Market Express, based in Portland, Oregon, was founded in July of 2016 when a dynamic team of transportation executives identified the need for a high caliber carrier in specific market areas. While we are predominantly a West Coast carrier, our business partnerships have grown to include Denver Colorado and points east. Our focus is on dry van freight, but we do offer refrigerated services as our customer demand requires.

We are looking for a strong addition to our Leadership Team at Market Express. The ideal candidate will create a solid foundation for the maintenance department and lead the team into a structured and efficient operation through:

  • developing, implementing, and enforcing SOPs
  • reviewing and analyzing the departmental budget
  • strategically analyzing opportunities for efficiencies
  • effective inventory management

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Maintenance will be the authority on technical maintenance and equipment specifications, including policies, procedures, and standard repair processes. The role encompasses leadership in all aspects of fleet maintenance: Safety, Continuous Improvement, Preventative Maintenance Programs, Vendor Management, Customer Engagement, Uptime, and Regulatory Compliance. This role has the primary responsibility for ensuring the environmentally sound, safe, cost effective, planned and efficient operations of all mobile equipment including prioritizing and scheduling of work assignments, assessing repairs and supervising and monitoring work quality, and managing direct reports.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

· Extensive knowledge of heavy equipment repair and maintenance procedures. Must possess strong organizational skills and good computer skills.

· Computer competent; attention to detail and accuracy; excellent math and management skills;

· Ability to identify processes needing improvement, recommend improvements, and successfully execute solutions

· Adept in P&L and operational procedures

· Ability to coordinate multiple group efforts within the company to achieve objectives

· Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

· Conceptual/Systems Thinking: Recognizes patterns, trends, themes, and connections in information to develop innovative ideas and solutions

· Constructive Engagement: Expresses ideas and disagreements, constructively resolves conflict, and encourages others to do the same

· Customer Orientation: Meets the expectations and needs of our internal customers

· Talent Development: Maximizes potential and improves overall performance

· Influence: Proactively builds relationships and influences others

· Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Accurately assesses problems and effectively and efficiently arrives at solutions

· Strategic Thinking: Understands the current state and is able to visualize the ideal state and how to achieve it

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related engineering field (preferred not required)
  • Tech school or equivalent is preferred (2 years)
  • 5 years of management/supervisory maintenance experience; or equivalent combination of education and related experience
