General Summary: 

The EEG Technician is responsible for conducting Nerve Conduction Studies in compliance with AANEM and Clinical Neurophysiology Lab standards, ensuring patient safety and delivering high-quality neurodiagnostic testing. Proficiency in electrode placement for various nerves is essential, along with interpreting waveforms, adjusting parameters for comprehensive results, and reporting findings to attending physicians. Collaboration with colleagues, including technicians, MDs, MAs, and staff, is crucial. Additional duties encompass equipment maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and managing EMG orders and scheduling. The role may also involve performing electroencephalographs and maintaining EEG department supplies and records.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate required.
  • Successful completion of a CA AHEP-accredited END Program or Proof of an associates degree plus one year experience in END

License & Certifications:

  • ABRET EEG Certification or Eligible (in lieu of ASNT certification)
  • BLS Certification (American Heart Association) required.

Experience

  • Minimum three years full-time experience in equivalent position in lieu of completion of END program

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  •  Perform routine EEG studies
  • Set up, maintain, and disconnect long-term EEG monitoring for ambulatory patients
  • Conduct EEG setups and teardowns
  • Identify and implement appropriate Neurodiagnostic procedures for diverse patient populations
  • Serve as a resource to other members of the EEG team
  • Promote compliance and support for the department at Marin Health
  • Deliver direct patient care to patients of all ages
  • Ensure patient satisfaction by adhering to Marin Health procedures, ABRET/ACNS Guidelines, and regulations
  • Exercise independent judgment in interdisciplinary patient care contexts
  • Prioritize and evaluate clinical situations using abstract thought
  • Participate in patient and staff education
  • Assist with scheduling, ordering supplies, and maintaining the schedule
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and accountability for own practices
  • Perform bedside electroencephalographs
  • Coordinate day-to-day operations of the service, including:
  • Working independently and alerting Neurology as needed
  • Confirming EEG studies with nursing units
  • Maintaining examination logs
  • Filing and retrieving charts
  • Ordering supplies
  • Enter and reconcile charges on a daily basis
  • Review and update department policies as needed

Furthermore, all compensation decisions are ultimately determined in accordance with our compensation philosophy. Compensation for positions covered by collective bargaining agreements are governed by the agreements in the aforementioned document.
