About the Position

The Legal Liaison Supervisor oversees and approves the work of Legal Liaisons to ensure timely document production, litigation hold / document preservation, and notifications to MCSO employees when subpoenas are received for testimony.

This position supervises and mentors staff to improve work performance. Acting as a liaison between the public and Office divisions regarding a variety of requests, the Legal Liaison Supervisor also responds to County counsel, other County departments, and contracted attorneys assigned to represent MCSO.

This position offers a 4 / 10 work schedule with Monday or Friday and weekends off. The workplace is located in downtown Phoenix.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS :

Education

High school diploma or GED; and

Experience

Five (5) years of experience in a legal and / or law enforcement setting that includes knowledge of processing legal preparations and legal proceedings.

Combined education and experience qualifications

Post secondary education may substitute for up to two (2) years of the experience requirement.

Other Requirements

  • Terminal Operator Certification (TOC) or obtain within one month of employment; renewal required every two (2) years.
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire, a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Training that may be provided on-the-job : FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; OSHA; payroll; PREA.
  • Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass and an extensive background review.

Our Preferred Candidate has

  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • One (1) year of supervisor experience processing various legal preparations and proceedings.
  • Experience managing public records requests and litigation hold / document preservation matters
  • Experience with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office administrative and / or jail system policies and procedures.
  • Experience using Adobe Acrobat Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Experience using Evidence.com

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS

The tasks listed are a representation and not an all-inclusive list of essential job tasks for this position.

  • Participates in staffing decisions, assigns, and directs workflow.
  • Analyzes work processes and procedures; recommends and implements changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and timeliness.
  • Reviews and analyzes various court filings including motions, subpoenas, and complaints for content and required action.
  • Examines and reviews records requests for content and appropriate resultant actions; prioritizes and sends material and forms timely and in accordance with the rules of the court.
  • Researches, obtains, redacts, and duplicates Office records in response to legal requests; retrieves and analyzes information from various databases, including SHIELD and CAD databases.
  • Drafts and prepares reports and correspondence.
  • Reconciles deposit reports for monies received from public records requests.
  • Tracks claims against the Office and manages records according to status.
  • Interacts with County Risk Management, County Counsel, outside appointed counsel and other law enforcement agencies regarding litigation matters and MCSO records.
  • Provides testimony in court regarding the records produced by Legal Liaison Specialists as required.
  • Accepts proper legal service for MCSO employees.
  • Provides customer service via telephone, email, in person, and in writing.
  • Responds to enquiries concerning operations, Office policies and procedures, and office functions.
  • Attends meetings; prepares presentations and conducts meetings.
  • Observes, monitors, provides guidance and direction, and documents performance; prepares employee performance appraisals.
  • Mentors and applies discipline to improve work performance.
  • Participates in the hiring process, including application review, interviewing, and selection.
  • Drives a County vehicle to County and other locations as required.
  • Performs special projects and other related duties.
  • Is present at work site to perform tasks as scheduled and / or assigned by the supervisor.

Working conditions

Work occurs primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors. Tasksrequire managing interruptions, time pressures, high work volumes, and traumatic subject matter.

Travel to job related locations may occur during a scheduled workday. Responsibilities require ethical conduct, a professional demeanor, and involve teamwork and interaction with all levels of County personnel as well as the public.

    SELECTION PROCEDURE :
