The PositionMAG is seeking an experienced transportation manager to support its efforts in the Transportation Division. This position will lead transportation programming activities for the agency, including oversight of the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and regional competitive programs. The position will be an integral part of the financial implementation of the Regional Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Investment Plan, helping to ensure a comprehensive, integrated approach is taken to regional funding. The position will also help to establish and oversee financial management processes and practices to ensure success for the next generation of regional transportation investments.
Specific duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Oversee the development, administration, and implementation of the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), providing close coordination with member agencies and state/federal partners to ensure timely project obligation and technical assistance.
  • Oversee regional competitive programs, including close coordination with technical team members on the development of program policies, financial oversight, and project implementation practices.
  • Support the financial implementation of the Regional Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Investment Plan, including funding distribution, financial forecasting, compliance with federal requirements, and coordination with member agencies, the Arizona Department of Transportation, and other key stakeholders.
  • Oversee the MAG Street Committee.
  • Manage special projects.
The CandidateThe ideal candidate will have: a technical knowledge of federal and regional transportation systems, transportation finance, and extensive knowledge of federal and regional transportation funding; the ability to provide public meeting presentations, be comfortable holding coordination or working group sessions; and leading and managing a team of staff members. The candidate should demonstrate strong analytical abilities and critical thinking, be highly motivated and comfortable both working independently and within a dynamic team; have excellent written communication and organization skills, with a keen eye for detail; be able to convey complex, technical information in a clear and concise manner; and demonstrate a strong work ethic. Experience with federal transportation funding, financial analysis, tracking, and quality control management for regional transportation projects is required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and regional transportation funding sources, processes, policies, and regulations.
  • Ability to find solutions to complex problems.
  • Strong work ethic and desire to be a part of a high-performance environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate to a variety of audiences, including the MAG policy and technical committees.
  • Proficiency in working with spreadsheets and databases.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation funding and financing principles, policies, and best practices.
Education And Experience RequirementsBachelor’s degree in transportation planning, public administration, business administration, economics, finance, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
The candidate must have at least five (5) years of transportation planning, transportation project management, local capital improvement program (CIP) management, or engineering experience
