Purpose of Role:

The Global Head of Sanctions is the go-to expert on matters relating to sanctions in the United States and United Kingdom. The role leads a team in ensuring Marex’s Financial Crime Compliance team operates efficiently and effectively.

Marex has unique access across markets with significant share globally both on and off exchange. The depth of knowledge amongst its teams and divisions provides its customers with clear advantage, and its technology-led service provides access to all major exchanges, order-flow management via screen, voice and DMA, plus award-winning data, insights, and analytics.

The Financial Crime Compliance team is a second line function that works to mitigate risks related to financial crimes and criminal actors. The team partners with the business teams to ensure that the controls Marex has in place are sufficient to mitigate the financial crime risk the customer base and product offerings pose.

Responsibilities:

• Stay abreast of changes in the sanctions landscape.
• Maintain a stand-alone sanctions policy and framework to address US and UK legal requirements.
• Develop policies and procedures to improve screening and delineate actions required if/when matches are identified (e.g., freezing accounts, reports to government entities) and for annual reporting requirements to government entities.
• Oversee and maintain the World Check database.
• Develop and maintain methodologies to test and tune the screening tools and databases used
• Develop or identify annual sanctions training.
• Conduct or participate in an enterprise-wide sanctions risk assessment, as required by law or guidance provided by government entities.
• Responsible for the management of a team of Financial Crime Compliance Analysts, including full employee lifecycle of hiring, training and development, performance management, etc.
• Supervise an analyst(s) who review potential and actual sanctions matches, test the screening system, and reconcile the customer database.
• Ensuring compliance with the company’s regulatory requirements under the SEC, FINRA, NFA, CFTC and other applicable exchanges.
• Adhere to the operational risk framework for your role ensuring that all regulatory or company determined parameters are complied with.

Skills and Experience

• Five to seven years (5-7 years) of sanctions experience.
• Expert knowledge of United States and United Kingdom sanctions laws.
• Familiarity with BSA (Bank Secrecy Act) laws and regulations.
• Two (2) years’ experience managing a team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills (ability to write succinctly).
• Experience working in a regulated environment and knowledge of the risk and compliance requirements associated with this.
• Bachelor’s degree required
