Analytics is a rapidly growing practice within Marcus Thomas LLC. We leverage data analytics to deliver actionable insights, understanding and measurable business outcomes that create a competitive advantage for our clients. We know how to collect the right data and make sense of it. This is achieved through a proven approach, providing our clients with a single source of truth that informs and empowers data-driven decision-making.

What You’ll Do:
As a Data Engineer, you will have the opportunity to build solutions that ingest, store and distribute our big data to be consumed by data scientists and analysts. Our data engineers use Python, SQL, Java, and other data engineering technologies and visualization tools to deliver data capabilities and services to our scientists, analysts, products and tools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participate in the development of cloud-based solutions
• Assemble large, complex datasets that meet functional/nonfunctional business requirements
• Identify, design and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, redesigning infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
• Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources, using SQL, Google and/or AWS “big data” technologies
• Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics
• Work with stakeholders to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs
• Create data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing our product into an innovative industry leader
• Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.

Qualifications:

• Advanced SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL), and a working familiarity with a variety of databases
• Experience building and optimizing “big data” data pipelines, architectures and datasets
• Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement
• Strong analytics skills related to working with unstructured datasets
• Ability to build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management
• A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets
• Strong project management and organizational skills
• Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
• We’re looking for someone with 1-5 years of experience manipulating datasets and building statistical models, with a background in statistics, mathematics, computer science or another quantitative field
  • Experience with Google/AWS cloud services: BigQuery, Cloud Functions, EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift, etc.
  • Experience with ETL platforms: Fivetran, Funnel.IO, etc.
  • Experience with SQL: SQL Server, Oracle, etc.
  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools: Airflow, etc.
  • Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, C , Scala, etc.
