Job Title: Director of Interscholastic Athletics Job Type: Full-TimeOverview:We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Athletic Director to oversee all aspects of our athletic program and to provide leadership and management of all athletic activities for student athletes in such a way as to foster physical skills, healthy competition and success, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sport, and the principles of fair play. In addition, provide administrative functions, including student management and staff evaluation.The ideal candidate will have a strong background in athletics administration, a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive athletic environment, and a proven track record of leadership and organizational skills.Responsibilities:Leadership: Serves as a member of the High School building leadership team. Provide visionary leadership for the entire athletic program, including setting strategic goals, developing policies, and ensuring compliance with MIAA regulations and district policies.Program Management: Promotes and enforces the philosophy and policies of the Marblehead Public Schools. Coordinates the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events and facilities use, including field and gym practice schedules, coordinating transportation, and managing equipment and facilities. In cooperation with coaches, plans and supervises recognition programs for school athletes. Budget Management: Develop and manage the athletic department budget, including allocating funds for equipment, uniforms, and travel expenses, while ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency. Personnel Management: Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate coaches, athletic trainers, and other staff members, fostering a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement.Student Development: Promote the academic, personal, and athletic development of student-athletes, emphasizing sportsmanship, teamwork, and character development both on and off the field.Community Engagement: Fosters school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program, including promoting direct connections with the town recreation department and youth sports organizations. Cultivate positive relationships with parents, alumni, community members, and local organizations to enhance support for the athletic program and promote school spirit. Represents the school in public appearances, assemblies, athletic and extra-curricular activities, and parent/guardian gatherings. Compliance: Enforces appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities. Ensure compliance with all Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) rules and regulations, as well as district policies related to eligibility, safety, and sportsmanship. Verifies each athlete's eligibility according to the requirements adopted by the Marblehead Public School District and/or the MIAA, including academic eligibility, physical examinations, and baseline and post-concussion testing. Communication: Serve as the primary liaison between the athletic department, school administration, coaching staff, student-athletes, and the broader school community, effectively communicating information and fostering transparency.Event Management: Coordinate and oversee athletic events, tournaments, and championships, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for participants, spectators, and officials. Assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.Professional Development: Utilizes best practices in athletics administration, attends professional development opportunities, and actively participates in relevant conferences and workshops.Carries out such other appropriate responsibilities as may be assigned by the Marblehead High School Principal and/or the Superintendent of Schools.
