Job Title: Executive Director of Special Programs
Department/Campus: Central Administration
Pay Grade: Administrative/Professional
Primary PurposeThis position is to provide oversight for the effective implementation of district-wide curriculum and professional development on campuses. The Executive Director of Special Programs will work with principals and instructional coordinators to monitor program implementation, train personnel, lead data analysis and model best practices to ensure that the curriculum guides are being implemented as written and in accordance with best teaching practices.
The Executive Director of Special Programs will report field-based issues and needs to the Assistant Superintendent of Academics & Accountability and serve as an important link in the communication loop that includes the Superintendent’s Cabinet, principals and coordinators.
QualificationsDemonstrate a high degree of effectiveness in developing teacher capacity and leading successful curriculum reform at the campus level. The Executive Director of Special Programs must possess (1) a deep understanding of scientifically-based instructional strategies and (2) extensive knowledge of program components.
Education/CertificationMaster’s degree, valid Teaching Certificate, and Administrator or Mid-Management Certification

ExperienceA minimum of three (3) years experience as a classroom teacher and (3) three years of administrative experience. (Central Office experience preferred).
Essential Job Functions
  • Direct, supervise, monitor and manage curriculum and professional development programs.
  • Oversee development and implementation of horizontally and vertically aligned curriculum and performance assessments.
  • Supervise and evaluate performance of the Bilingual, Special Education, and Fine Arts Directors.
  • Conduct site visitations with academic coordinators, site administrator, and district leadership to provide feedback on curriculum and program implementation.
  • Debriefs with principals and district leadership, as appropriate, about possible actions that may improve instruction and implementation.
  • Collaborates to develop rubrics and processes to model best instructional practices and ensure the fidelity of specific program implementation and intervention support.
  • Analyzes assessment data and assists directors and academic coordinators with planning professional development to meet the specific needs of teachers on assigned campuses.
  • Works closely with principals to provide professional development and intervention support for teachers requiring additional assistance and support.
  • Serves as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all students, including English language learners, students enrolled in Special Education Programs and students with unique/diverse learning needs.
  • Provides updates to ensure that all are knowledgeable about student achievement progress, program components, TEKS and diagnostic/progress monitoring tools.
  • Meets regularly to discuss areas of strength and areas of need across the district and to strategize effective ways to meet these needs.
  • Plans with the other directors to ensure a continuum of services to all students in all programs.
  • Works closely with other directors to plan and implement district-wide staff development.
  • Participates in and actively supports the district level decision-making process to establish and review the district’s goals and objectives.
  • Implements policy established by federal and state law, SBOE rule and local board policy related to curriculum and instruction.
  • Dependable performance requires reliable and dependable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
