Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 is Hiring a FIT Closet Facilitator-1/2 Time Near Manhattan, KS

Purpose of Position: To oversee and coordinate operation of the USD 383 FIT Closet and Clothing Exchange. This facility is the district’s means of providing many of the necessary essentials (e.g., school supplies, clothing, shoes, coats), so all USD 383 students can attend class and integrate successfully. The FIT Closet Coordinator consistently advocates for the mission of the organization and upholds its values.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Support FIT Closet Shoppers

  • Delivers services with genuine care, respect, and dignity
  • Registers new families and communicates with them to ensure they understand what is available to them at the FIT Closet, how often they can access the FIT Closet, where the facility is located, etc.
  • Regularly communicates with registered shoppers to keep them apprised of upcoming, events, policies, schedule changes, community resources, etc.
  • Ensures families who access the FIT Closet are complying with program guidelines and procedures
  • Maintains records of FIT Closet shopper access

FIT Closet Volunteer Team

  • Coordinates and oversees the volunteer team (volunteers who work a weekly shift, substitutes, special projects teams, and volunteers who haul away the items we can not use at the FIT Closet)
  • Ensures the FIT Closet is adequately and safely staffed with an appropriate number of volunteers on each shift
  • Works with the volunteer team to provide a welcoming environment for shoppers
  • Recruits, interviews and orients new volunteers
  • Regularly communicates with the volunteer team to keep them up-to-date on any procedural changes
  • Keeps orientation/training documents up-to-date
  • Keeps volunteer paperwork organized (FIT Closet Volunteer Contact Info/Interest Inventory & Pre-Employment Background Check forms) and ensures pre-employment background check paperwork for each volunteer is properly submitted to USD 383 HR Department

FIT Closet Donor Relations

  • Works with local businesses, churches, organizations, fraternities/sororities, etc. to create awareness of FIT Closet needs and provides avenues for the Manhattan-Ogden community to meet the needs of those who access the FIT Closet.

Products/Donations/Ordering

  • Maintains adequate inventory levels of socks & underwear, ordering needed items via the appropriate USD 383 processes.
  • Promotes community engagement by maintaining a weekly “critical needs list” which is posted to the FIT Closet’s Facebook page and the FIT Closet’s website.

Interagency Collaboration

  • Collaborates with organizations in the community (e.g., Riley County Council of Social Service Agencies, Everybody Counts, Community Care Team, Flint Hills Wellness Coalition, Food & Farm Council - Food Insecurity CAT (Community Action Team)) to ensure that we are serving those in need in the best way possible without duplication of services

General Duties

  • Office duties (i.e., answering the phone, returning calls, answering emails, making copies of forms used in day-to-day operations, creating and printing signs to post at the FIT Closet to aid in communication/organization of the facility)
  • Maintains and updates the FIT Closet’s website and the FIT Closet’s Facebook page, and ensures the USD 383 webpage for the FIT Closet is current
  • Maintains an up-to-date email distribution list for volunteers, shoppers, and donors

Other

  • Performs other duties throughout the facility, such as stocking products, sorting through donated items, cleaning, etc.
  • Provides a yearly report to the USD 383 Board of Education
  • Attends and participates in Teaching & Learning department meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Experience in the Human Services or related field preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to lead a team and cast a vision for the future
  • Organizational skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $14.50 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
