Cashier/Counter Sales

SUMMARY:

This position supports the Service Manager in providing service to patrons by taking orders via a computerized point of sale (POS) system, accurately inputting the purchased items, submitting the orders to the kitchen and delivering food and beverages for counter orders. The Cashier/Counter Salesperson has further responsibilities in maintaining a positive attitude and suitable appearance while following all company policies and procedures when performing his or her duties efficiently and in a timely manner.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

• Working towards high school Diploma or equivalent

Experience:

• Restaurant, or retail sales experience preferred

Skills:

• Knowledge of beverages, food, and baked goods
• Clear and friendly communication skills
• “Can-do” customer service attitude
• Positive attitude
• Ability to understand customer needs
• Read, write, and speak English
• Basic math skills
• Attention to detail

Physical: 

• Use of legs and feet, arms and hands – walk, stand, stoop, crouch, reach or carry up to 35 lb.
• Able to see and hear within normal standards with corrective devices

Mental: 

• Ability to understand and take direction from a supervisor
• Ability to work under pressure

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Cashier works in a Deli/Café’ atmosphere, which is a temperature-controlled environment with moderate to heavy noise. The restaurant is a fast-paced working environment. The Cashier’s hours vary from week to week as the working hours are dependent on the weekly schedule established by the Service Manager of a seven-day-per-week, busy restaurant. 

This position is a variable position, and there is no guarantee for a specific number of hours.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

The Cashier-Counter Salesperson reports to the General Manager, Service Manager or Assistant Service Manager.

DUTIES AND TASKS:

1. Responsible for greeting guests

2. Communicates with guests – acts as salesperson offering descriptions of food and beverage items

3. Takes orders and enters order in POS system, accurately inputting the purchase of items

4. Responsible for cash drawer and all monetary transactions

5. Works with manager to handle, record and store all cash correctly

6. Maintains cleanliness of counter and area behind counter

7. Informs Manager of any customer problems

8. Performs assigned open and closing side work duties before the end of the shift
