Making It SewFun seeks a part-time Sewing Instructor who is engaging, friendly, and passionate about teaching. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire and empower the next generation of Sewists while sharing an important life skill with them.

The ideal candidate should possess intermediate to advanced-level sewing skills. The ideal candidate should have extensive knowledge of commercial sewing patterns, PDF patterns, sewing terminology, pattern alteration, and fitting. You should also be able to communicate complex sewing concepts in simple terms while being attentive to students' understanding. Additionally, experience in managing 5 to 6 students simultaneously in a group class setting is necessary.

Responsibilities

• Communicate information with enthusiasm, clarity, and patience
• Demonstrate how to operate classroom sewing machines and equipment
• Demonstrate how to use sewing patterns, prepare fabric, pin, and cutting 
• Assist students in reading, understanding, and executing sewing techniques 
• Ensure safe and appropriate use of sewing equipment and tools
• Conduct fittings and demonstrate pattern alterations 
• Record attendance
• Complete student evaluation sheets
• Notify parents of the supplies needed

Qualifications

• Five years of experience sewing personally or professionally
• Experience altering patterns for different body variations
• Understanding of sewing math and use of tools
• One-year teaching and training experience preferred
• Simplistically communicate complex sewing terminology with enthusiasm and patience
• Utilize multiple approaches to teaching for different learning styles
• Ability to listen for cues of understanding
• Ability to actively engage students to build a relationship of trust
• Monitor students and provide feedback regularly for improvement
