LOCATION: Mt. Ararat Middle School

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• General classroom responsibilities with major focus on teaching Science.
• Work in a team-oriented environment to design engaging student-centered lessons based on clear Learning Targets and Learning Goals.
• Build positive relationships with students.
• Support a growth mindset in the classroom including how to learn from mistakes, persevere, manage impulsivity and develop grit.
• Use assessment data to find a student’s readiness level so they can meet where they are and moved forward in their learning suing feedback effectively.
• Participate in professional development in curriculum, instruction and assessment.
• Support non-instructional duties.
• Other duties as per teacher contract.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Current State of Maine Science Teaching Certification, General Elementary K-8, or ability to obtain.
• Experience teaching Middle School science.
• Knowledge in the unique needs of the young adolescent and middle level philosophy.
• Experienced in a 1:1 computing environment including how to effectively use technology as an input source for knowledge.
• An understanding of a learner-centered proficiency-based education.
• An understanding of the Response to Intervention (RTI) model of student growth and support.
• Proven ability to function as a contributing member of a team.
