DEPARTMENT: Oakland Chinatown Corps.

LOCATION: Oakland, CA

SUPERVISOR: Corps Officer(s), Majors Timothy and Esther Hsu

STATUS: Exempt / Full-time

BASIC PURPOSE

The Education Center Supervisor should provide a safe, loving, and learning environment, for all the in-person and virtual learning programs under the Education Center including Tutoring Program, Heritage School, Senior College, Vocational Education, and etc. Responsibilities include hiring and leading staff; recruiting and leading volunteers for positively influencing learner’s lives in academic abilities, skills, and characters. The Education Center is an outreach program of The Salvation Army / Oakland Chinatown Corps, serving the community of all cultures, ethnicity, and ages.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Work with the Corps Officer to provide workstations for each learning section within the program to provide a comfortable and learning-oriented environment.
  2. Responsible for establishing learning strategies and curriculum for individual students
  3. Responsible for recruiting teachers and volunteers for the academic and recreational learning sessions.
  4. Responsible for coordinating, supervising, and training teachers and volunteers to bring about the best outcome for individual learners in the learning center.
  5. Responsible for recruiting students to participate in our programs.
  6. Responsible for creating an atmosphere that will provide and encourage continual growth for individuals’ academic and spiritual learning.
  7. Responsible for creating an atmosphere of community involvement.
  8. Responsible for assisting the Corps Officer for preparation of reports for DHQ/THQ and Foundations etc.
  9. Responsible for reporting any notices of concern per The Salvation Army policies and procedures and work with the Corps Officer regarding any issues pertaining to the students/minors.
  10.  Responsible for assisting in fundraisers.
  11.  Make monthly statistical reports.
  12. Responsible for any additional duties related to the Education Center, assigned by the Corps Officer.
  1. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
  2. Must be a bilingual person in English and Chinese. Must possess excellent professional and accurate communication skills verbally (in English; and in Mandarin or in Cantonese) and in writing both languages (English and Chinese).
  3. High Confidentiality required
  4. Must be Computer Literate: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
  5. Possess ability to work with people from varying backgrounds.
  6. Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential matters.
  7. Be a self-starter and a team player.
  8. Be able to research and be willing to learn new things.
  9. Ability to juggle different work activities and shifting attention from one task to another.
  10. Experienced or willing to be trained in leading chapel time, worship, devotion, and Bible study.
  11. Playing instrument plus.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree (or above) in education or related field from an accredited college or university
  2. Driver License.

  2. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis
  3. Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects
  4. Ability to reach overhead
  5. Ability to operate telephone
  6. Ability to lift to 25 lbs. for administrative positions
  7. Ability to operate a computer
  8. Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information
  9. Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools PC, Fax Machine, Telephone, Calculator, Copier, Printer.
