This position supports the work of the Y, a leading not for profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Youth Activities Instructor serves others by intentionally welcoming, connecting, and supporting them, and inviting them to get involved. They will implement and facilitate purposeful activities designed for middle school aged youth. 

Essential Functions:

1. Provides a safe environment in which all individuals feel welcomed and respected; build relationships with and among members and program participants.
2. Communicates and coaches individuals appropriately. Caches them in support their desired behavior.
3. Displays empathy in support of helping participant build confidence based on their diverse abilities, interests, and cultural background.
4. Maintains clean equipment and environment.
5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations. 
6. Performs other duties as assigned. 
7. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
8. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.

Qualifications:

1. One to two years related experience preferred. 
2. Minimum age of 18. 
3. Maintain current CPR, AED, First-Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications.
4. Within 30 days of hire, completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff is required.
5. Completion of Y program-specific certifications.

Physical Demands:

Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).
