Madison Square Boys & Girls Club is Hiring an After School Explorer Academy Director (005) Near New York, NY

Title: Explorer Academy (Youth Programs) Director

Department:

FLSAfication: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Club Director

Summary: The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support with planning, organizing, conducting and evaluating departmental programs, activities and events and providing individual guidance and referrals as needed for our Explorer Academy members (5-9 years old).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Aid in the delivery of assigned departmental programs and services.
  • Ensure thorough evaluation of all assigned programs.
  • Submit all required reports and records timely to the appropriate staff member/maintain formal records of all assigned programs
  • Initiate and maintain community contacts; families, schools and other organizations and institutions as directed.
  • Collaborate with outside entities to enhance programs and services; families, schools and other organizations and institutions as assigned.
  • Provide group and individual instruction.
  • Assist with the completion of homework.
  • Motivate members to participate in programs, activities and events.
  • Participate in organizational meetings and conferences as requested.
  • Ensure a healthy, safe environment in program areas.
  • Generate new and creative ways to engage members in educational activities.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with direct supervisor and colleagues.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, conduct and supervise educational programs and services.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds, ages 6-18 as well as a range of other organizational personnel in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Must be highly motivated and dedicated to the organizational mission.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in a related field is preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not supervise any employees.

Work Environment

·Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions.

·Some filing may be required - This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing on a stool as necessary.

·Be able to lift up to 25 pounds

Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday 11am to 7:00pm.Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Work may require local travel and may require occasional overnight travel and weekend and/or evening work.
