Job Summary
The purpose of the Intensive Support Team (IST) is to provide leadership in the development and monitoring of systems, structures, and professional learning to support schools in serving students with intensive needs.
Reports to: Assistant Director(s) of Student Services
Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
Experience and leadership in serving schools in supporting students with intensive needs
Demonstrated ability engage assessments such as the suicide risk assessment, violence risk assessment, etc. and develop and implement safety and behavior intervention plans
Evidence of and ability to articulate commitment to equity-focused work
Knowledge and experience in teaming at the school level to develop and monitor multi-tiered systems and practices
Evidence of strong understanding of use of data within an MTSS system
Evidence of exceptional organizational and leadership skills
Evidence of exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Commitment to the philosophy and organization of the school and district outlined in the Strategic Framework
Primary Objectives and Examples of Specific Activities:
Objective A - Central Office Leadership:
Provide leadership in the development of systems, structures, and professional learning at the district to support schools in serving students with intensive needs
Examples of Specific Activities:
Serve as a member of the IST, supporting the development of the systems critical for efficient school-based supports for students with intensive needs
Develop professional development, tools, resources, and guidance for schools in support of students with intensive needs
Engage as a team member in a continuous improvement process as the IST works to hone policies, procedures, and practices
Collaborate with a team to develop a comprehensive plan for shifting the IST from a reactive to proactive model
Objective B - Professional Learning Systems:
Develop / coordinate professional learning systems and deliver professional learning to support schools in serving students with intensive needs
Examples of Specific Activities:
Contribute to the development and implementation of professional learning in support schools of schools serving students with intensive needs
Lead Crisis Management Intervention (CMI) professional development design and delivery
Provide cross-training / professional development to the Office of Student Physical, Mental, and Behavioral Health and engage in reciprocal cross collaboration
Oversee systems and professional development for assessments regarding students with intensive needs (participation planning, VRA, SRA, FBA, etc.)
Objective C - Coaching & Direct Support to Schools:
Provide direct support to schools
Examples of Specific Activities:
Provide support in response to school support plans
Consult, coach, and problem-solve with principals, school leadership teams, and student-specific teams regarding the intensive needs of a student or students
Support schools in ensuring restorative reentry and re-engagement following a critical incident, significant behavior incident, or following an extended absence
Minimum Qualifications:
Four year degree in special education, school-based student services and / or community mental health and a master's degree in a related field
Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Developing a multi-tiered system of support for students with autism and significant disabilities (psychologist prefered)
Serving students experiencing an imminent mental health crisis or experiencing mental health challenges (social work prefered)
Developing, implementing, and supporting systems in support of students with intensive needs
Conducting Functional Behavior Analysis and developing Positive Behavior Support Plans
