Description

The Nurse shall be familiar with and adhere to the philosophy and all policies and procedures as established by the Madison County Probation & Court Services Department. All work must be treated as confidential.

The Nurse will perform activities to include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Provide medical observation and assessment of residents in the Detention Home.
  • Examine residents reporting illness and conducts “wellness” interviews.
  • Communicate information and problems identified to the consulting physician.
  • When a resident requires treatment or has a condition that requires special precautions, the nurse consults within the Superintendent, staff, parents, court, hospital personnel, or other parties as delineated in the Procedure Manual.
  • Monitor the medication log to assure proper administration of medicines.
  • Perform follow-up assessment of residents to ascertain progress.
  • Develop and maintain medical history of each resident in detention.
  • Provide educational information to residents regarding personal hygiene, nutrition, contraceptive choices, diseases, drug awareness, etc.
  • Conduct or coordinate through the Assistant Superintendent various training programs for the staff, to include but not limited to, CPR, First Aid, Drug Awareness, and any other pertinent training.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of Health Service Agencies in the community and develop a working relationship with same to aid in the provision of health care to residents in detention and continuation of services upon release.
  • Assist in the creation, design and implementation of a variety of programs, presentations and events aimed at promoting positive change and deterring negative behavior in your people.
  • Attend and participate in youth staffings, staff meetings, and/or training programs as assigned by the Superintendent.
  • Demonstrate support for fellow employees in the course of the performance of the job.
  • Maintain ability to work without supervision, but also possess ability to take direction or supervision and utilize a team approach to working with residents, detention officers and other probation and court services personnel.
  • Perform such other duties as assigned by the Director of Probation and Court Services, the designated Superintendent, Chief Probation Officer or other designated managers.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Obtained a Nursing Degree (R.N.) from an accredited college or university and be licensed in the State of Illinois. Experience in working with adolescents is preferred.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Due to department structure and programming, individual must maintain flexibility in assignment location and scheduled hours of work.

Must be a citizen of the United States. Must be a resident of the county in which he/she is employed. Must be generally qualified as provided by law or rule of court. Must have devotion to principles of public service, capacity to learn by experience, fundamental capacity for and interest in the welfare of human beings; good character and balanced personality; ability to work with individuals and groups; possession of or ability to obtain a valid Illinois Driver’s License.
