Description

Maclay School Summer Camp Counselor

Application Deadline: Friday, April 26th

Maclay School is currently seeking responsible, energetic counselors with a genuine passion for working with children to join our 2024 Summer Camp Staff.

Candidates who can commit to the Training Day and at least 5 weeks of Summer Camp are prioritized. Maclay School is seeking candidates in the following 2024 Sessions:

  • Day Camp - Session 1 – Session 8 (June 3 – July 26)
  • Extended Day After Camp Care – Session 1 – Session 8 (June 3 – July 26)
  • Lunch Bunch - Camp Session 1 – Session 8 (June 3 – July 26)
  • PreK Camp - Camp Session 1 – Session 7 (June 3 – July 19)

Purpose: These positions are seasonal employees/volunteers working under the supervision of the Specialized Camp Director. The main responsibility of these positions is to lead a group of campers in having an enjoyable, safe, and enriching camp experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the health, well-being, and happiness of campers.
  • Provide opportunities for the group so that all individuals experience success while at camp.
  • Encourage respect for other campers, personal property, camp equipment and facilities.
  • Guide campers in participating successfully in all aspects of camp activities.
  • Supervise, assist instructors, and actively participate in all aspects of the campers’ day.
  • Observe camp procedures and assess appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
  • Meet and communicate regularly with the Camp Director regarding concerns, updates, challenges.
  • Provide appropriate feedback and information to parents as needed for their campers to have a successful camp experience.
  • Maintain positive relationships with campers by showing sensitivity to campers’ emotional needs and problem solving any camper issues effectively.
  • Act as a role model for campers by following all policies and demonstrating enthusiasm, sense of humor, and self-control.
  • Implement positive behavior-management techniques.
  • Help maintain space and supplies.

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience working with children; camp or other group experience preferred.
  • Ability to teach and lead various recreational activities.
  • Excellent character, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Ability to communicate and work with a variety of ages and skill levels.
  • The desire and ability to work in a cooperative, team-oriented atmosphere.
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control.
  • All positions require successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
  • Minimum age of 16 required to apply for paid positions
  • Minimum age of 15 required to apply for volunteer positions
  • Lifeguards must be Certified in CPR and First Aid.
  • Must be available for camp training the week of May 20th
  • Available 7:30am-5:30pm, Monday-Friday from May 28 through August 9, 2024.
  • All staff/volunteers must have a government issued ID in order to complete the screening process.

  • Performs other duties as requested.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

Works in a noisy, fast paced environment both indoors and outdoors.

  • Ability to occasionally lift 45 lbs.
  • Works intermittently in outside weather conditions which include daily exposure to sun, heat, water, and bugs.
  • Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury).
  • Must possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
  • Prolonged standing, some bending, and walking required.
