Position Summary

As the Senior Staff Engineer - Bridge Inspection at Mackin, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the structural integrity and safety of critical infrastructure. Leveraging your extensive expertise in bridge inspection and design, you will lead complex engineering analyses, provide strategic guidance, and mentor designers and staff engineers. Your focus on technical excellence will contribute significantly to the success of our projects.

$74,700 - $104,500 USD/Year

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Duties

  • Lead and conduct in-depth inspections of bridges, employing advanced engineering techniques to assess structural integrity and identify potential deficiencies
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, codes, and industry standards in all bridge inspection activities
  • Utilize sophisticated engineering software and tools for comprehensive structural analysis, modeling, and detailed evaluation of bridge conditions
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports and drawings, including findings, recommendations, and cost estimates
    • Assist with statements of interest, technical proposals, and price proposals
    • Use iForms, BMS2, and National Bridge Elements (NBE)
  • Develop and present nuanced and effective recommendations for maintenance, rehabilitation, or replacement of bridges based on inspection findings
  • Provide quality oversight (QA/QC review) for bridge inspection and structural engineering work
  • Support multiple bridge inspection projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and client expectations
  • Effectively communicate inspection findings, recommendations, and project updates to clients
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to designers and staff engineers
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulations, codes, and emerging technologies in bridge inspection
  • Maintain billability percentage set by leadership
  • Function as a Team Leader during NBIS inspections
  • Contribute to the overall success of Mackin by supporting internal departments, providing exemplary service to clients, and striving to meet on-going initiatives to grow and develop the company

Non-Essential Duties

  • Participate in professional and engineering society conferences
  • Contribute and serve on committees and subcommittees
  • Participate in research and development opportunities and projects
  • Advise management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, client relations, and/or inter-departmental relations

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervisory Responsibilities: This role does not involve direct supervisory responsibilities but will involve mentorship of designers and staff engineers.

  • PennDOT Bridge Inspection and Load Rating Analysis Policies and Procedures
  • Advanced Analysis Software (STAAD)
  • Inspection Access Equipment Capabilities and Common Traffic Control Patterns
  • Deltek Ajera
  • Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
  • Computers, Printers, and Electronics

Education and/or Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Years of Experience:

Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in the engineering field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education:

BA or BS Degree required

Degree or Formal Training:

Civil Engineering or a related discipline

License, Certificate or Registration:

Certified Bridge Safety Inspector (CBSI) and Professional Engineering (PE) license in Pennsylvania are required (Ohio, Maryland, and West Virginia are a plus)
