Description

M.S. Rau is looking for an Operations Material Handler to be part of the Art Handler team. This position is responsible for moving all manner of fine art and inventory around the gallery, warehouse, trade shows and clients’ home visits. Assist in packing items for shipment and unpacking items received.

Who You Are:

You have a strong work ethic, care for handling fine and unique inventory, get things done, a desire to learn, and a positive attitude. 

The expertise you will bring include:

  • Use your technical skills to move fine, unique and fragile inventory around the gallery and different facilities, as well as merchandising fine art and adjust lighting as directed. 
  • You will load and unload trucks delivering inventory and fine art and receive and inspect inventory for any damage upon delivery. In addition, you will complete tasks related to the upkeep of the gallery and warehouse. 
  • Using your heightened level of sensitivity toward customer satisfaction, you will deliver items to clients including the unpacking, setup and installation of fine art inventory. 
  • With your initiative, you will learn how to ensure the proper packaging, crating, and shipping of inventory to trade shows and/or clients deliveries requiring knowledge of best practices for wrapping and packing 2-D and 3-D objects, selecting proper archival process and other packing materials depending on the medium, surfaces, condition, and fragility of a particular fine art work; and properly wrap, load, and strap artworks within a truck to keep safe during transport.

Requirements

Other skills you will bring to M.S. Rau:

  • High school graduate, or equivalent
  • 3 years of experience in handling and transporting complex inventory
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Chauffeur’s or CDL license preferred
  • Ability to operate transit van, 16ft truck and 26ft truck
  • Prior experience with Lean Methodologies or Continuous Improvement methods preferred to reduce defects or incidents.
  • Experience with and knowledge of fine art and antiques preferred but not required
  • Must be organized, detailed oriented, thorough, self-motivated, disciplined, flexible, patient and possess good decision-making capabilities
  • Self-management, initiative and individual judgment is expected
  • Strong verbal communication skills

Compensation and Hours

This is a full-time hourly position with a very competitive compensation range based on abilities and experience plus the potential to earn quarterly and annual bonuses. The position works Monday through Friday with at least one Saturday per month required. Opportunity for overtime as well and local and out-of-state travel required.
