Lynker Corporation is Hiring a Remote Supporting Scientist for Atmospheric Composition and Air Quality Modeling

Overview:
Lynker is seeking a Supporting Scientist for Atmospheric Composition and Air Quality Modeling to support NOAA for the development of atmospheric composition and air quality modeling.
Responsibilities:
Duties of the Supporting Scientist for Atmospheric Composition and Air Quality Modeling will involve the Following:
  • The development and coupling of the Community Multiscale Air Quality Modeling System (CMAQ) with the regional Rapid Refresh Forecast System (RRFS) within the NOAA Unified Forecast System (UFS).
  • Testing, evaluating and improving the RRFS-CMAQ system for air quality and wildfire forecast applications.
  • The Supporting Scientist for Atmospheric Composition and Air Quality Modeling selected will perform the job duties in an independent, collaborative and initiative way, applying innovative methods for the primary work areas.
  • The Supporting Scientist for Atmospheric Composition and Air Quality Modeling selected will work in a team and collaborate with the community to develop and improve air quality modeling and support transition to operations.
Qualifications:
The Supporting Scientist for Atmospheric Composition and Air Quality Modeling should have the Following Qualifications:
  • Advanced experience in air quality and earth system modeling.
  • Advanced skill in modern programming languages, such as FORTRAN90 and Python.
  • Advanced skill of high performing Computing on various platforms using MPI, OpenMP, Slurm, LSF, etc.
  • Knowledge of modern software development practices and version control software, in particular Git/GitHub/Gitflow.
  • Experience working in a UNIX environment with advanced shell scripting languages and familiar with running complex jobs.
The ideal Supporting Scientist for Atmospheric Composition and Air Quality Modeling will have the Following:
  • Experience with one or more of the CMAQ, RRFS, and UFS systems.
  • Experience in model evaluation and data post-processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a team environment and communicate effectively using good oral and written communication skills.
