Lynker Corporation is Hiring an IT Security Specialist Near Silver Spring, MD

Lynker is supporting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in providing and maintaining IT security critical to the collection of space, atmosphere, water and climate observational data. This critical water intelligence also supports socio-economic decision-making for a sustained and enhanced economy.

We are expecting the need for an experienced IT Security Specialist to work on the team to support this work. The ideal IT Security Specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining robust administrative, technical, and physical controls to safeguard sensitive data and mitigate risks effectively.

Duties of the IT Security Specialist will include the Following:

  • Develop and implement IT security policies, procedures, and controls to safeguard observational data systems and infrastructure.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and vulnerability scans to identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities and compliance gaps.
  • Monitor and analyze security alerts and incidents, and respond promptly to security breaches or unauthorized access attempts.
  • Lead incident response efforts, including forensic analysis, containment, and remediation of security incidents.
  • Collaborate with IT and operational teams to design and implement security solutions, such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption technologies.
  • Provide guidance and support to IT professionals and stakeholders on IT security best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Stay abreast of emerging threats and trends in IT security, and recommend proactive measures to enhance security posture.
  • Takes a lead role in conducting more complex root cause analysis to identify and resolve complex security findings

The IT Security Specialist selected should have the Following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in IT security, with a focus on designing, implementing, and managing security controls and solutions.
  • Strong understanding of IT security frameworks, such as NIST, ISO/IEC 27001, and CIS Controls.
  • Experience with security tools and technologies, such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, and encryption.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex security issues and recommend effective solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

The Ideal IT Security Specialist should have the Following:

  • 6-10 years in Cyber Security
  • BS/BA in computer science or similar
  • Experience with digital forensics
  • Experience with Networking concepts
  • Experience writing technical documents
  • Highly proficient with best practices and industry standards
  • Preferred Advanced certificate in cyber security (CISSP, CISM, CISA)
