Alaska Marine Lines is looking for a service technician/mechanic to perform routine services and inspections on various types and sizes of company equipment.
This position works out of our Seattle terminal, working 4 x 10's Tuesday to Friday; swing shift 2:00pm - 12:30am. Swing shift premium pay of an additional $3/hour.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. Technical School graduate preferred, not required. Previous experience repairing diesel equipment or trucks preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret safety rules and regulations and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively communicate with other employees, vendors and management.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to apply concepts of basic math and read tape measure and chain gauge.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to apply common sense understanding to fulfill job duties with limited or detailed written or oral instructions.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required. Must be eligible to apply and be issued a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credential). Able to meet forklift certification requirements for operating fork trucks with lifting capacities between 3,000# and 100,000#. Training available.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemical.
Employee is required to wear PPE as outlined in Company’s Industrial Health and Safety Manual which may include hard hat, safety toe shoes/boots, gloves, safety glasses/goggles, hearing protection and respiratory protection. The employee needs the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. This position regularly works out of a man lift working at heights performing mast service to the lift trucks. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is moderate in the office to very loud in the barge operation.
