Lynden Incorporated is Hiring a Service Technician Near Seattle, WA

Overview

Alaska Marine Lines is looking for a service technician/mechanic to perform routine services and inspections on various types and sizes of company equipment.

This position works out of our Seattle terminal, working 4 x 10's Tuesday to Friday; swing shift 2:00pm - 12:30am. Swing shift premium pay of an additional $3/hour

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Change engine oil and filters, transmission oil and filters, hydraulic system oil and filters, axle oil and final drive oil on company equipment ranging from forklifts to vehicles.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and complete checklists.
  • Perform chain and fork inspections on forklifts.
  • Grease machinery and inspect for abnormal wear or damage.
  • Perform light duty repairs to equipment as needed at the direction of the mechanics.
  • Start and drive repaired equipment to verify conformance to specifications and to test their performance.
  • Record daily repairs in M&R maintenance software.
  • Respond and acknowledge repair request and investigate complaints and equipment malfunctions.
  • Coordinates parts and materials needs to the parts department.
  • Own basic hand tools common to the trade. Must be able to properly use and maintain company supplied tooling.
  • Complies with all company safety polices, including use of protective equipment and Fit for Work.
  • Clean and maintain work area to company and OSHA standards.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. Technical School graduate preferred, not required. Previous experience repairing diesel equipment or trucks preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret safety rules and regulations and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively communicate with other employees, vendors and management.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply concepts of basic math and read tape measure and chain gauge.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to apply common sense understanding to fulfill job duties with limited or detailed written or oral instructions.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required. Must be eligible to apply and be issued a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credential). Able to meet forklift certification requirements for operating fork trucks with lifting capacities between 3,000# and 100,000#. Training available.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Ability to meet a regular work schedule.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work to meet schedules/deadlines.
  • Regular attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this position. Daily physical presence is required.
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to change focus and job duties in a fast moving, time restricted environment.
  • PC skills required: Windows, Outlook and basic typing skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemical.

Employee is required to wear PPE as outlined in Company’s Industrial Health and Safety Manual which may include hard hat, safety toe shoes/boots, gloves, safety glasses/goggles, hearing protection and respiratory protection. The employee needs the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. This position regularly works out of a man lift working at heights performing mast service to the lift trucks. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is moderate in the office to very loud in the barge operation.
