The Lycée Francais de New York is seeking a High School counselor/LCSW/Psychologue de l'Education to work closely with students in grades 9-12.
The ideal candidate will have a solid experience within the school environment and with the unique needs of High school students in a bilingual and multicultural setting. They will be skilled at collaborating and working with students, faculty and families alike.
Emphasis will be placed on counseling students on an individual or small group basis in the support of personal problems as related to peers, home and family, health, and emotional adjustment utilizing short-term counseling and solutions-oriented strategies.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Student Specialized Support, and working within the Specialized Support team, the essential duties and responsibilities of the High School Counselor/ Psychologue de l'Education will include:
- Maintaining a caseload and providing individual and group counseling services for students
- Consulting with parents, faculty, school administrators, regarding student adjustment issues
- Supporting students with crisis management interventions (safety assessment, support, collaboration, referral)
- Providing resources and referrals to students, parents, faculty and staff.
- Collaborating with other members of the school team engaged in work related to student support: Psychologist, Deans of students, advisors to develop and organize, students, staff and parent discussions, events and training on topics related to mental health.
- Collaborating within the Specialized Support Team to discuss students and participate in building support plans including all aspects of the student's difficulties.
- Organizing the response to the DOE for IESP meetings and acting as liaison.
- Collaborating with teachers to help put in place those plans within the classroom.
- Maintaining records and their confidentiality.
- Responding to school crisis and emergency situations by collaborating with the Director of Specialized Support, the Deans of students and the Head of Division and Director of Secondary, others as needed
- Interpreting psycho-educational testing results or other metrics, and making recommendations for action based upon these results to teachers and parents in collaboration with the Specialized Support Teachers .
- Adhering to ethical standards of the counseling profession, and abiding by the laws, policies, and procedures that govern the schools.
- Performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications
- The ideal candidate must have:
- Master’s degree in school counseling
- LCSW or Psychologue de l'Education certification
- Minimum of five years of experience in Secondary schools. The ability to speak French and English is required.
