Housing Coordinator - Asheville, NC
Lutheran Services Carolinas' New Americans Program welcomes refugees, asylees, SIVs, and humanitarian parolees to Raleigh and assists them in beginning their new lives in America. In the initial resettlement period, basic needs such as school enrollment, application for benefits such as social security and Medicaid, and cultural orientation are met. However, before a family can call this new environment home, they need their own permanent housing. The Housing Coordinator performs a critical role in the New Americans Program to secure housing for the newly arriving families.
Essential Functions:
1. Reserve and arrange temporary and permanent housing for new refugee arrivals.
2. Conduct outreach to potential landlords.
3. Develop standard operating procedures with landlords offering leases to clients.
4. Present proposals to landlords incentivizing them to work with refugees.
5. Work with Housing and Urban Development to provide more resources for clients at risk of homelessness.
6. Update client address and housing information in agency and state databases.
7. Other duties as assigned by NAP service coordinator, Resettlement Director and/or Executive Director.
Qualifications
Education: Four-year degree or high school diploma and at least two years of relevant experience.
Specific skills/abilities: Competence with Microsoft Office suite. Experience working with health and human services programs such as Low Income Energy Assistance or Section 8 is preferred. Skill with data entry and Microsoft Excel. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to multitask and prioritize in a dynamic work environment. Record keeping and budget skills.
Specialized knowledge, licenses, etc: Valid NC drivers license and insured vehicle.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
1. Typical office environment.
2. Working in community settings with apartment complex and/or housing developments in various areas of the Raleigh/Durham greater Wake County and surrounding areas.
3. Transporting clients in personal vehicle may be required.
4. Ambulatory throughout all locations.
5. Ability to bend, stoop (to the floor), reach overhead.
