Brief DescriptionThe Title IX Coordinator leads Luther College’s collaborative gender equity efforts and programs, providing expertise and direction for efforts to ensure that students, faculty, staff, and guests enjoy an educational environment free of gender discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual violence.
This position is listed as a year-round, three-quarter time role beginning summer 2024.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:Case Management
  • Coordinate the case management, investigation, and resolution of all incidents of sexual misconduct involving students, faculty, and staff, whether within or outside the scope of Title IX
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for individuals involved in formal sexual misconduct processes on campus
  • Provide wide range of support services to students and employees involved in sexual misconduct situations, including academic accommodations, residential accommodations, employment accommodations, referral to Counseling Service, and connection with off-campus resources
Campus Climate and Sexual Violence Prevention
  • Engage directly with students, faculty, and staff to establish a healthy, positive, and trusting climate in which the community can engage gender equity issues
  • Collaborate with the Wellness team to plan, implement, and evaluate theory-based and evidence-informed sexual violence prevention strategies, policies, programs, and services
  • Provide faculty and staff with ongoing training, consultation, and professional development opportunities related to Title IX
  • Engage with students through the Title IX Advisory Council, Norse Against Sexual Assault, Student Senate, and other avenues to demonstrate the College’s commitment to reducing sexual violence and promoting gender equity
  • Continually assess gender equity and sexual violence climate on campus
Policies and Compliance
  • Maintain expertise in the legal and compliance landscape surrounding Title IX, working with outside counsel as appropriate
  • Collaborate with the Student Engagement, Student Success, Human Resources, Athletics, and the Office of the Provost to ensure that policies and practices are current, appropriate, and consistently followed across the College
  • Lead and provide training for employees who work with sexual misconduct-related processes
  • Partner with the Athletics Department to ensure gender equity within the College’s athletic programs
  • Partner with the Director of Campus Safety and the Dean of Student Engagement to ensure accurate Clery Act reporting
Institutional Initiatives
  • Lead the Title IX Team, a cross-departmental team comprised of the Associate and Assistant Deans of Student Engagement, Director of Campus Safety, Director of Human Resources, Assistant Athletic Director for Student Wellness and Compliance, and others as appropriate
  • Serve as primary contact for internal and external inquiries about the college’s sexual misconduct policies, procedures, and incidents
  • Participate in the Bias Response Team, collaborating with the Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer on response to bias incidents related to gender discrimination
  • Provide consultation to and training for the Employee Grievance Investigators as appropriate
  • Maintain membership on Winneshiek County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) and build collaborative relationships with community partners Winneshiek Medical Center, Decorah Police Department, Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office, Winneshiek County Attorney’s Office, Riverview Center, and Helping Services for Northeast Iowa
The Title IX Coordinator will carry out other duties as assigned by the Director of Human Resources.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; master’s or professional degree in law, student affairs, social work, gender studies, or related field preferred
  • Experience: Minimum of three years’ experience in higher education, in student conduct, or with incidents of sexual violence
  • Nuanced knowledge of Title IX and related laws, regulations, and guidance
  • Understanding of a culture of a residential liberal arts college
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college.
  • Ability to work compassionately with all stakeholders, including survivors of trauma, individuals accused of sexual misconduct, and members of the LGBTQ community
  • Ability to operate effectively within a complex multi-faceted academic environment
  • Ability to effect change through collaboration and influence
