We are currently seeking a Battery Cell Metrology Engineer. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches their work with vigor and determination. Role:

• Key user of the cell team’s various teardown and metrology equipment, including gloveboxes, microscopes, CT scanner, sectioning tools, and other analytical techniques. 
• Own the definition, creation, and upkeep of standardized reporting and documentation methods. 
• Lead cell tear down engineer responsible for studies of lithium plating and other post mortem feature identification 
• Develop, build, and utilize coin half, full and 3-electrode cells in order to extract key electrode-level electrochemical curves. 
• Support time sensitive root cause analyses of developmental and mass production battery cells. 
• Maintain and resolve issues with equipment and lab facility 
• Champion EH&S related tasks and coordinate safe and timely waste removal. 
• Support the identification, research, and development of business cases for future metrology equipment acquisition within the cell team, as well as utilizing academic institutional facilities. 

Qualifications:

• 5 years of related work experience
• Experience with glovebox operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance 
• Experience working in laboratory settings and requisite EH&S practices 
• Experience developing robust analytical methods and assessing robustness via Gage R&R type assessments 
• Experience with optical and electron microscopy, CT scanning, and profilometry. 
• Experience with battery material/electrode characteristics, such as PSD, BET, Porosimetry 
• Experience in thermal property measurement, including ARC and thermal conductivity testing 
• Experience with next generation battery formats and chemistries (e.g. 46XX, SSB, etc)
• Experience in handling and characterizing air sensitive samples 
• Experience with JMP, MATLAB, or Python 

Advantageous:

• Use battery cell cyclers and coin cell experiments to characterize cell performance and support algorithm development
• Basic understanding of lithium-ion battery design, components, and safety
• Proven track record of generating easy-to-follow written and oral reports
• Detail-oriented with a strong bias towards documentation.

Education:

• BSEE or similar. MSEE preferred
