Louisville Regional Airport Authority is Hiring a BF Facilities Technician Near Louisville, KY

Compensation: $23.16-$28.96

General Function:

The Airport Facilities Technician, reporting to the Bowman Field Facilities Supervisor, is an essential role focused on the efficient operation and safety of airport facilities and infrastructure at Bowman Field. In addition to exhibiting a strong capacity for independent work, able to navigate complex situations, and making informed decisions with minimal supervision—reflecting a high level of trust and responsibility within the team—the Technician performs a broad spectrum of maintenance and repair tasks. These tasks span across various trades, including carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, welding, and airfield lighting, addressing both routine day-to-day repairs and undertaking emergency and preventive maintenance to ensure the airport's continuous, safe operation.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

·Efficiently executes work orders through to workflow completion, overseeing and ensuring that all tasks conducted by on-call contractors are completed satisfactorily.

·Collaborates closely with the Engineering Department and the Bowman Field Facilities Supervisor to communicate ongoing building and infrastructure issues, assisting in the definition of future project scopes.

·Carrys out routine inspections and maintenance of fire hydrants, advising on replacement schedules as necessary.

·Operates a diverse array of equipment such as large tractors, zero-turn mowers, chainsaws, and snow removal equipment, actively participating in snow removal operations and the maintenance of Authority-owned property around the airfield.

·Performs additional duties and assignments as directed.

HVAC Maintenance

·Contributes to both corrective and preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, including the daily monitoring of air conditioning and heating systems.

·Inspects, maintains, and repairs systems, including the installation and maintenance of all ductwork and insulation, and replaces bearings and electrical motors on airport HVAC equipment.

·Regularly inspects, cleans, and maintains air compressors, filters, and air-cooling equipment, as well as inspects and reassembles boilers to ensure proper operation and chemical balance.

Mechanical Maintenance

·Conducts checks, maintenance, and repairs on doors, access panels, access control systems, mechanical and overhead doors, gates, gate operators, and fence structures to ensure operational integrity.

Electrical Maintenance

·Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles or replaces defective electrical equipment such as plugs, switches, outlets, ballasts, motors, and appliances using hand tools, test equipment, and service manuals.

·Executes new electrical installations and modifications to existing electrical systems.

Plumbing Maintenance

·Performs maintenance on domestic water and wastewater systems, including the replacement of plumbing fixtures, water lines, and sewer lines.

·Maintains, replaces, and inspects backflow preventers to ensure water safety and compliance.

Employment Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • A mandatory criminal history background check is required for employment. Candidates must maintain eligibility for a security badge in alignment with CFR Part 1542 and the Airport’s Security Plan.
  • Must secure and maintain airfield driving privileges with an Air Traffic Control (ATC) Radio Communication endorsement within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Must have the ability to operate vehicles and equipment on controlled airfield surfaces while communicating with ATC personnel and maintaining a high level of situational awareness of other vehicles and aircraft operating on the movement area.
  • Must possess and maintain RPZ Certification within 2 years of employment.
  • Must possess the skills to operate all designated equipment and vehicles, demonstrating safe work and driving practices consistently.
  • Unwavering commitment to integrity, coupled with the capability to effectively communicate with team members ensuring clear and concise coordination and adherence to operational protocols.
  • A demonstrated working knowledge of general construction practices, particularly those relevant to maintenance work.
  • Must have reliable means of contact for off-duty hours, ready to respond to emergency call-ins as needed.
  • Experience in operating both gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles.
  • Applicants should possess a solid understanding and operational knowledge of a wide array of hand tools essential for maintenance tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience in safely operating a variety of heavy machinery.
  • Requires proficient communication skills for drafting routine reports, work orders, and correspondence, as well as for responding to inquiries or complaints from tenants, coworkers, and supervisors. Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office is essential, as the role involves using a computer and/or iPad for managing work orders, handling email communications, and completing training modules.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A minimum of 5-years’ worth of experience in general facilities maintenance

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

This position is primarily performed in an outdoor environment in a variety of climates. Involves exposure to noise, vibrations, chemical, and other contaminants, moving mechanical hazards, and extremes of temperature and weather conditions. Must have sufficient visual acuity, with or without corrective lenses; sufficient auditory ability, with or without audio logical devices; able to tolerate exposure to noise levels up to 120 decibels; capable of being on one’s feet for extended periods of time and lifting 50 pounds unassisted. Must be able to distinguish colors as required to discern light-gun signals from the Air Traffic Control Tower.
