Job Description

This position is under the organization of the Building Maintenance Department and is a multi-function technical position.

This position will be working and performing carpentry, roofing, sheet metal, painting, minor plastering, locksmithing, door / window work, glass work, and animal control.

This job also may require the understanding and safe operation of heavy equipment.

Job Duties

35%- Performs personally and provides guidance, assistance, and support to other maintenance repairman in performing general carpentry work involved with repair, alteration, or maintenance of buildings and all related structures.

Builds or repairs shelves, cabinets, windows, trim work, ceilings (suspended systems), doors, door frames. bulletin boards, etc.

Fits, cuts and fastens all types of wall coverings (paneling, sheet rock, plywood, etc.) Repairs, removes and installs floor tile and vinyl sheet floor material.

20%- Performs personally and provides guidance, assistance, and support to other maintenance repairmen in performing general locksmithing duties.

20%- Performs personally and provides guidance, assistance, and support to other maintenance repairmen in performing general door & window repair and installation work.

10%- Performs personally and provides guidance, assistance, and support to other maintenance repairmen in performing building surveys to determine routine maintenance requirements and makes any repairs necessary, such as painting, carpentry, roofing, sheet metal, locksmithing, etc.

Makes reports to supervisors and performs other maintenance duties as directed.

5%- Operates heavy equipment & machinery (such as large man-lifts, scissor-lifts, fork-lifts, & large trucks with trailers).

5%- Performs personally and provides guidance, assistance, and support to other maintenance repairmen in campus animal control services

5%- Performs personally and provides guidance, assistance, and support to other maintenance repairmen in performing general painting duties by preparing and painting buildings, furniture and other structures with brush or spray application.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant.

SUBSTITUTIONS

Training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or parks building and grounds work will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience.

Training will be credited in six month increments.

NOTE

Custodial building maintenance is not qualifying.

Examples of building construction trades include cabinetmaker, carpenter, concrete finisher, electrician, HVAC controls technician, HVAC mechanic, ironworker, millwright, painter, pipefitter, plasterer, plumber, refrigeration mechanic, roofer, sheet metal worker, steamfitter, tile setter and welder.

Examples of building maintenance include Maintenance Repairer 1 / 2, B / G / E Maintenance Repairer 1 / 2 and Maintenance Repair Foreman.

Examples of repair / maintenance of mechanical equipment include Operating Engineer 1 / 2, auto mechanic, Mobile Equipment Maintenance Mechanic, Mobile Equipment Overhaul Mechanic and Mobile Equipment Master Mechanic.

Special or Physical Qualifications

Due to the nature of this position and / or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug / alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.

In accordance with PS-18 this position maybe required to report to or stay on campus in the event of emergency or closure.

Must be able to lift 50 lbs, be capable of stooping, kneeling, or crouching; able to reach and / or climb a ladder, climb stairs, and bend their back.

Due to the position's physical requirements, a pre-employment physical examination will be required per FASOP : HR-04.
