We are looking for a Collections Manager to join our team! The Collections Manager will work in two offices: The Administrative office currently located in Laplace, La and a location in Metairie off of the Service Road.
The initial pay range for this position is $59K - $69K annually, based on knowledge and experience, with the potential to grow in the department and/or the organization.
Role:
The Collections Manager oversees all collections functions including the control of credit accounts that are late, potentially delinquent, delinquent, or charged off. Assists in the resolution of difficult and complex account situations. They perform periodic evaluation of collections policies and procedures and make modifications as needed. They ensure that established policies, procedures, and legal requirements are followed. They coordinate activities, ensuring all subordinate areas of responsibility support Credit Union objectives. They train, direct, and appraise personnel. They ensure services are delivered professionally and efficiently.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensures staffing levels are appropriate. Interviews, hires, and assigns personnel. Provides leadership to personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication. Conducts staff meetings as required. Informs personnel of policy, procedural, and legal changes. Discusses areas needing improvements, identifies training needs and develops and implements appropriate training programs. Conducts training sessions and cross-trains as appropriate. Ensures personnel are well trained, effective, and optimally used. Conducts performance appraisals as required. Formulates and implements corrective actions as needed.
  • Assists the Vice President of Loan Solutions in developing short and long-term goals and plans. Keeps the Vice President of Loan Solutions informed of area operations and of any significant problems. Provides recommendations to improve collections processes and effectiveness and ensure the integrity of department processes.
  • Monitors and evaluates work quality, efficiency, and productivity. Provides suggestions for improved service delivery. Seeks new methods to accomplish department functions.
  • Ensures collection actions are thoroughly documented. Ensures accurate accounting for and collection of accounts that are charged off. Provides assistance with complex and sensitive collections activities. Oversees charge-offs, repossessions, and various court collections actions. Makes recommendation for action.
  • Executes established operational goals and ensures that corporate-wide plans are complemented and supported.
  • Stays informed regarding changes in collection practices and trends. Ensures changes in legal requirements and government regulations are integrated into current practices.
  • Works with delinquent members to reach suitable arrangements to restore accounts to current status. Utilizes effective human relations skills and persuasion to resolve negative situations. Discusses possible financial arrangements, informs clients of possible legal actions, and provides or suggests financial counseling as means to arrive at suitable payment arrangements.
  • Coordinates collections efforts with related departments. Ensures that collections functions are completed in accordance with established Credit Union policies and procedures and applicable legal requirements. Ensures confidentiality is maintained. Directs, coordinates and schedules work.
  • Completes special projects as assigned. Completes required reports, records, and other documentation as required.
  • Ensures Credit Union assets are protected. Ensures the Credit Union's professional reputation is maintained.
  • Assists in developing department policies and procedures. Conducts periodic reviews of existing policies and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency and service delivery.
  • Builds relationships with vendors critical to the success of the department for collection action in the legal arena.
  • Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Two to five years of similar or related experience, including time spent in preparatory positions.
  • A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school.
Interpersonal Skills needed:
A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In-depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance.
Other skills needed:
Strong supervisory and leadership skills required to manage, motivate, and develop employees. This position requires a perceptive person who is capable of relating to individuals at all levels. As unique situations present themselves, the incumbent must be sensitive to the members, employees and Credit Union needs and the Credit Union's public image. Strong communication, analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills are required to effectively uncover and resolve complex member and employee issues. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, attentiveness, information retention, tact and diplomacy are needed in dealing with both members and employees.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure. The ability to make sound decisions. This may include making on-the-spot decisions regarding member transactions; weighing member satisfaction issues with the Credit Union exposure to loss or fraud and the ability to think through and rationalize decisions.

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled share work area. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position may work remotely and/or hybrid at times.
Must be able to perform job functions independently and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to plan and direct the work activities of self-and/or others. Must be able to read and carry out various complicated written and oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate the highest level of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines/requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising the highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
