Loudoun County Public Schools is Hiring a School Counselor, Virtual Distance, Elementary (School Year 24-25) (EOY) Near Ashburn, VA

Position Overview:
To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans appropriate to their age/maturity level leading to their development as productive citizens; to help students develop their potential to live full, useful lives.
This position is eligible for remote work, but also may require in-person attendance at job-related meetings, training sessions, and conferences, as requested by the employee's supervisor.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
  • Works to resolve students' educational challenges; works to discover and develop special abilities of students; works to prevent students from dropping out of school
  • Collaborates with the home school to register students new to the Virtual Distance Elementary (VDE) Program and orients them to VDE procedures; provides assistance in collaboration with the home school to students in course and subject selection; maintains student records and protects their confidentiality in collaboration with the home school
  • Engages and supports online learners to identify and maximize academic success in distance learning
  • Communicates with students and parents/guardians across multiple platforms to develop action plans and support student learning as needed
  • Supports students in communication with teachers, navigation of digital learning platforms and developing time and task management
  • Provides supports and resources for students new to the school
  • Analyzes data to identify needs and implement appropriate multi-tiered interventions
  • Assists students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such situations as home and family relations, peer relations, health, and emotional adjustment; is available to students to provide counseling in such areas as personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity
  • Conducts small group counseling on student-selected and counselor-identified topics such as study skills, social skills, anger management, self-esteem, changing families, and grief
  • Obtains and disseminates occupational information to students and to classes studying occupations; helps students evaluate career interests and choices; may organize and conduct career day
  • Provides crisis counseling when needed, for prevention, intervention, and follow-up, with referrals, when necessary, to community resources
  • Offers in-service training in school counseling topics for staff; collaborates with administrators and faculty on the matters of student discipline, developmental issues, and identifying significant behaviors such as suicide, self-harm, and depression
  • Takes an active role in interpreting the VDE's objectives to students, parents, and the community at large; confers with parents whenever necessary
  • Performs other related work as assigned
Qualifications
Below are the qualifications for this position:
  • Holds Master's Degree from an accredited college or university and completion of an approved school guidance and counseling program; holds or is eligible for appropriate licensure
  • Has successful full-time teaching experience or successful experience in school guidance and counseling
  • Excels in the distance learning environment as a counselor and collaborator
Organizational Relationships:
The School Counselor reports to the Supervisor of School Counseling Services through the Virtual Loudoun Supervisor.
This position is eligible for remote work, but also may require in-person attendance at job-related meetings, training sessions, and conferences, as requested by the employee's supervisor.
Candidate must live within a commutable distance of Loudoun County Public Schools.

FLSA Status : Exempt
Months/Days/Hours : 212 days/ 7.5 hours per day
Salary Level : Licensed

This is an End-of-Year (EOY) position
Remote Work Disclosure
Employees who perform the responsibilities of the above position have been identified as having the potential to telework. Telework is defined as completing one's duties and responsibilities at a site other than one's assigned duty location. In order to be eligible for telework privileges, an employee must have demonstrated consistent, positive performance and have the support and approval of their direct supervisor. In addition, these employees must have reliable high-speed internet and a designated workspace that allows them privacy while completing sensitive and confidential work. Employees who are non-exempt and are teleworking will work their required scheduled hours and gain approval from their supervisor if they work more than 8 hours a day or more than 40 hours in a workweek. Teleworking privileges can be amended, changed, or revoked based upon the performance of the employee, as well as the needs of Loudoun County Public Schools.
