Position OverviewThe Distance Learning Elementary (VDE) Specialist provides assistance to the Virtual Loudoun Supervisor as requested in the total school program.
This position is eligible for remote work, but also may require in-person attendance at job-related meetings, training sessions, and conferences, as requested by the employee's supervisor.
Roles and ResponsibilitiesThe following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
- Assists in the supervision over the work of teachers assigned to teach elementary courses; assist in planning and implementation of the instructional orientation of new teachers; assist in planning, coordinating, and presenting group and individual in-service activities for instructional personnel; assist in maintaining discipline and deals with special cases as necessary.
- Works with other central office departments to provide coordinated instructional services.
- Assists in the coordination, selection, purchase, and distribution of enrichment and support materials and equipment.
- Fosters effective home and school communication by providing opportunities for parents and teachers to discuss student progress and other matters of mutual concern
- Keeps abreast of current research and participates in professional organizations.
- Collaborates with the virtual school community to include students, parents, teachers, counselors, administrators, and central office staff to ensure an effective instructional program.
- Performs record-keeping functions as the Virtual Loudoun Supervisor may direct.
- Serves as the primary special education designee for VDE; Monitors IEPs of students enrolled in VDE to ensure accountability and compliance; attends and participates in IEP meetings, as needed; provides leadership and support to VDE staff to best meet the needs of special education students; and assists and collaborates with the special education department.
QualificationsBelow are the qualifications for this position:
- Master's degree from an accredited university or college
- Experience as a secondary teacher, Dean, Assistant Principal, or equivalent administrative experience
- Holds or is eligible for the Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12
- Possesses leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents

Remote Work DisclosureEmployees who perform the responsibilities of the above position have been identified as having the potential to telework. Telework is defined as completing one's duties and responsibilities at a site other than one's assigned duty location. In order to be eligible for telework privileges, an employee must have demonstrated consistent, positive performance and have the support and approval of their direct supervisor. In addition, these employees must have reliable high-speed internet and a designated workspace that allows them privacy while completing sensitive and confidential work. Employees who are non-exempt and are teleworking will work their required scheduled hours and gain approval from their supervisor if they work more than 8 hours a day or more than 40 hours in a workweek. Teleworking privileges can be amended, changed, or revoked based upon the performance of the employee, as well as the needs of Loudoun County Public Schools.
